New poster!!! Okay here's the stupid question newbies always ask, I have my CDL and graduated from a truck driving school, I have dings in my MVR and Background, I do not want to work a years or two years for one of these bottom feader companies, who treat the people like crapp I have read to many post on here about bad experiences, I have little experience I mean little but I want to get my own truck and authority and be a real O/O, I have checked some of the load boards and was wondering do they ask how much experience you have before they consider giving you any loads. Im old enough I might get a desent insurance rate on a cheap truck and trailer...I would like back into trucking but sorry don't want to pay my due's at the bottom feader who want you to be Jesus Christ before they hire you I dont qualify I was just wonder if there is anyone out there who could tell how they became an O/O and even better if they never worked as a company driver and made it work???????
So you want to "own " your own company

Here's a stupid answer for you. You clearly found a thread that answers a few of your questions. Did you read it? -
KO1927 Yeah Thats why Im asking the Questions all I see is you have to pay you're dues at a company for a least two years, and I have thought about Lease purchase but alot of bad news there to... I might not be able to get back into Trucking, but Im trying to find a back door around all these so called bottom feeder cmpanies who take trainees. I have called some dont have a perfect Background anymore like I did when I was a cop to personal to explain.....sh.....t happens.......
and yeah I have character..LOL -
as far as being an owner operator yes you can and it does not cost as much as you might think or might have heard i am one and always have been and i do what they say can't be done i hear it all the time but im still ot here running my old trucks and i'ver been out here for a whle now and every time i hear one of these truck driving school experts telling somebody how it's done and how you have to do it i sit back and laugh and make another deposit when one of these experets tell you you can't do it it simply means that they cant do it and that is all it means .
as far as a broker goes all he is going to ask you is do you have insuance most just ask about cargo insurance any thing else is none of his business you want have any troubel getting a load.
as far as a truck is concearned if you don't mind driving an old truck the market is way down on used trucks you cna buy them dirt cheap i bought a tractor and trailer and all the eqipment enculding permits pretty nice old truck and it runs every day and i have 20.000 tied up in the truck it even looks good in this business you can do what you want to do all you need to do is just do it never mind what all the experts say just do it'
if i can help you anyway just ask you wont be the first i have helped nor will u be the last.
good luck to you my friend. southernpridenevuloso, milskired and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
Nice to see ya back on here, SP. You feeling better?
-
Southernpride thanks for the great encouragement and advise, you helped me get rid of some of my concerns I thought the answer I would get from this thread would be you can't do it dude you're dreaming....but you really help me decide that this just might be an option thru the backdoor.. all I need to to is the research on how to get my own authority and the cost associated with that and insurance rates ect to see if I can make this dream come true!!! I would appreciate you're help down the road when Im closer to setting everything up need to sell a house first, my mom's house she's going in a home and was going to use what I got out of that to start this endevour.......Thanks Again..............

I wasn't trying to discourage you, I apologize if it came out that way. There are several ways around the "perfect record" standard of the "starter" companies. Smaller outfits tend to care less about the "Paperwork Pedigree" of the driver and more about his/her skills. I would check that avenue if you decide against buying your own truck. Although, if you can get the capital and have the skills, I can't think of a better way to make a living in the trucking business than running as an independent.
As to the character bit, don't take that personally it's a "signature" that is attached to all of my posts. It's a line I found amusing from one of my favorite movies. Although I find that character is something many people are lacking nowadays.
Take SouthernPride's advice, I'm hard pressed to find fault with most of what he says. (Keeping overhead low is some of the best business advice in the world- regardless of the trade) -
Hey SP so how do I go about getting my own authority and getting everything I need to be legal to run 48 states?
