Hi Pipe, yeah, it is a tough job, and don't kid yourself, the only reason these guys(not too many women on that job) do it, is because they get laid off in the winter. I always thought the roller dude( with the little umbrella) had an easy job, the guy pulling the lute, not so much. And you're right, you don't see too many overweight workers on the asphalt crew (except the truck drivers)The new thing now, I've seen, especially in rural areas, is the trucks are hopper bottoms, and they dump their load in a big pile, and take off, and a grader lines it up with the paver.
