I made the mistake of checking "yes" on medications and admitted I take Diovan. Big mistake, my DOT medical card was downgraded from a 2 yr. card to a 1 yr. card. Some drivers are downgraded to a 6 mos. card. I can't go back in time and change it now, so I'm stuck with it.

@DustyRoad, I respect your opinion, and I understand that what I'm about to say will come off as ignorant/childish, but just to be a bit crass/brash & smart-@ssed, for a smirk or two from some, can I ask you, whose definition of "illness" are they using? Is there an official definition? Is it my opinion, or is it according to past diagnosis's? Opinion on whether or not an individuals "drug abuse" or "addiction" or "drug use" can be defined as an illness can vary greatly from individual to individual, can they not?

Seems the question is a bit vague.

I did....and we both know the drug of choice is irrelevant. Addiction is a mental disorder which includes Chemical Dependency. Two wars raging inside .....

    Thanks for caring and sharing!

Maybe the response didn't make sense. I'll try again. The question "Do you have a problem with drugs" can be interpreted many ways. Personally, no I don't have a problem. They're an inanimate object. Or do I have a problem finding them? No, they are everywhere. And lastly the problem is I love them....

I think we disagree there. I don't believe it's a mental disorder. Neither do a lot of Drs. Although you can get varying opinions. Just like anything. But I personally believe that it is a coping mechanism. It numbs the pain. Sometimes knowingly, sometimes unknowingly of what the pain actually is. It could be from a poor childhood. It could be from a break up. It could be from the loss of a loved one. So on and so on. Either way I don't believe that it should be frowned upon. Or used to ruin someones life. That just ends up perpetuating the pain. But that's just me

You are not guilty of a crime for being arrested. And it should not be held against you. Unless you're OJ. But only then. You can admit to any question that they ask you. It doesn't mean you are legally responsible for answering it truthfully. Years ago it was the age question. It was against the law and considered age discrimination if they asked to your age. But there was, is and always will be a spot for you to fill out your DOB. An employer wants to fire you, they can find a reason. Most states they don't need a reason. The right to work state is soon a thing of the past. If not already.
