@Weeezerd you have a great goal and will make it happen.... Lean hard on those that have walked your path before you especially those suggesting taking the time you need now in this first year of recovery... That sounds like the most important thing you can do now for whatever the future holds for you.
Go ahead and get the CDL and start paying off the loan... You are in a great place with very low expenses... Now will be the best time to complete a school program and be able to pay it off as it will be your only debt. Any job will help you pay off the loan.
Then deal with the employment aspect down the road a bit. After you have a bit more time standing securely on your own two feet and know you have this totally under control.
It's a good goal, one worth pursuing.G13Tomcat and Waggledaddy Thank this. -

BP and Piss Test... And done!!! LOL
Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am
They all know you will have another physical prior to actual employment and they want you in the program... So they find the easiest place to work with.
That's what I meant.pattyj and Waggledaddy Thank this. -
I just spent the entire day running all over my state. I went to 4 city police departments & the state DMV office to make sure nothing was on my record anywhere that I've spent time in my lifetime. I paid a grand total of $34 to find out everything and anything that could be on state or federal background checks. At each police department, even if I did not have a record in the city, I asked about expungement. Each police department told me that they get a lot of individuals looking to break into a DOT regulated career, and that if the arrest was expunged, the DOT will not have access to those records, even though they are a federal institution. I am not required to list that I have been arrested, nor am I required to list that I have any convictions, as my record is squeaky clean on a LEGAL standpoint. This is what I have been told by several police departments.
The ticket that I received for driving with my cellphone IS on record in the city that I got it in, and when I visited the state DMV, it is also the ONLY thing on my driving history background check. The two (no fault of my own) accidents are NOT listed on my driving history background check. Only the ticket.
The city where I had my 1st accident (the man that ran a stop sign & hit me) has NO record of such accident, and neither does the state DMV office. The city where I had my 2nd accident, did have record of the accident, and the police report shows that I was not at fault.
The city where I was arrested for possession & illegal lane change has record of my (expunged from the record) arrest, but they assured me that the DOT, and/or a DOT regulated employer, will have no access to this record, even if I were to allow access. & I have the right to mark "No arrest record" because of this. Those of us who have been arrested prior to age 18 without ever being tried as an adult due to multiple offenses, also have NO arrest record & therefore are not required to mark past arrests on employment applications.Florida Playboy Thanks this. -

From what I was told, an expunged arrest/conviction is identical to a juvenile arrest/conviction. Expunged = Juvenile. No record of the incident can be used against me in the hiring process, even for federally regulated positions. Now is this all TRUE, or is this what a woman that works in police records in each of these cities happens to think is true? lol. The man at the DMV office also told me that my driving history record from the DMV is as official as I can get. Nothing that is not listed on my DMV driving infractions/accident record will be given in a background check.
So I think I will be honest, & when applying for companies, I will list the 1 accident that is officially on record in the city that I was hit in, even though it isn't listed on my DMV accident/infraction history report. I will also list the ticket, since that was on the DMV report. I will not be listing that I've been arrested. Sound about right? Please let me know if you think I should go forward with the current plan. -
