call the schools directly and ask them if they plan on signing up for the grant money.

By "avoid all the mega carrier drama" are you suggesting that by going to a CDL school, I may be able to get a job with an outfit other than the mega carriers? Or that I will avoid the mega carrier school BS drama? Thanks for your help through this man. I can't thank ya'll enough.

    Probably both... lol

I went through a CDL Program through a local community college... In Florida... Then we moved to North Carolina and transferred my CDL from FL to NC... Then started looking for a driving job... Through TTR and @Chinatown found at least five non Mega companies that hire new drivers and offer an In House Training Program... Joined a 400 truck company suggested by Chinatown in Richmond, Virginia called Abilene Motor Express. I thought I would be here for my "first year" and move on to another company but I really like it here and plan on staying.

So, yes, I avoided all things Mega!!!!
And so can you, if you want to do so.

There are plenty of companies below the Mega Level... Just got to look for them.

    Just my two cents worth.

My work history is the scariest part now that I better understand the background check. It's been a solid year since I've last worked. But I feel like I don't have to prove anything to anyone... I know that whenever I am unemployed, I am working on myself... & I don't feel like I've wasted much of my TIME on earth. But I'd love to see an interviewers face if I were to justify my unemployed periods with "I was researching aristotles philosophies and reading the Buddhist holy texts" lol. I'd be screwed, no? :p

You should have no trouble getting a job. Don't let these guys scare you, I've worked for two so called "megas" and amazingly I didn't go bankrupt and Satan doesn't own my soul so it's not really that bad. In fact, Schneider was a great place to work. Some people just have a real aversion to them and that's okay. Some of the worst offers I've ever had have come from small trucking companies. Just apply everywhere and see what happens. Take the best offer for you. Regardless, once you get some experience you will not only have the ability to seek higher options, you will have the experience to know what you really want in this industry.

Don't just rule out the Mega's right off the bat. I've never worked for one- but they are huge and successful which means they're doing something right. Shoot, there's an entire website out there devoted to preaching how awesome the Mega's are! Lol.

Bottom line is figure out what's the best fit for you (no matter how many trucks they have) and go in with a great attitude. You'll be fine

I'm thinking about applying for NEMF dockwork. I want to see if they'll let me work with them until I'm going to school for my CDL. The whole concept of talking to your employer about circumstances that have to do with your personal life is pretty new to me up to this point... I'm usually not really expected to talk. lol. I might give it a shot.

I'm thinking about applying for a local company as a dockworker. I want to see if they'll let me work with them until I'm going to school for my CDL. The whole concept of talking to your employer about circumstances that have to do with your personal life is pretty new to me up to this point... I'm usually not really expected to talk. lol. I might give it a shot. Can't hurt to try, and it certainly couldn't hurt to get some experience in the industry & stop this 12 month unemployment streak.

WELL I've decided on a school. I think I will keep my choice private for now. You'll have to stay tuned!
I need to call the school Monday to find out if they have re-submitted for the new WIOA grant requirements.

I was hired to work in a factory Tuesday, so I am slowly working on my recent employment history. I am saving up for a tablet to bring with me on the road :) This job is the highest paying job I've ever had! It's also one of the most mind-numbingly boring jobs I've ever had, with almost no physical labor. Ahh well.

Gonna keep on trucking. I went back to JobCenter to retake the math test & I didn't pass again! Luckily you can take the test an unlimited amount of times. I have filled HALF A NOTEBOOK from studying over the last week... But I looked down at the 5 page test & quickly realized I had studied a lot of things not on the test! So this time, I wrote down the TYPE of questions I didn't know how to solve. Mainly percentages & fractions. There was a woman retaking her math test as well. They left us alone & she took out her calculator. lol. #### it, I wish I wasn't so stubborn. But I really want to pass this test without cheating. I'll update soon!
