Just playing devil's advocate but what about the application where it asked if you have ever been arrested?

I accept the things I can not change, but I also have the courage to change the things I can. My intentions are not to make people upset....my intentions is to show that the truth about our industry is corrupted by men who are encouraging others to falsify and then sign a document stating any deception will null and void his certificate.

It is clear to me that people are afraid of the unknown.

I have seen many guys try and then two days later get kicked out of orientation when it was revealed they lied about the felony conviction for possessing drugs.

There seem to be a mis-understanding - It's not the crime you committed that hurts you, it the lie you tell trying to deceive the trucking company. Many drivers have criminal records and get hired when they are truthful.

I completely understand where you're coming from with how you are approaching your sobriety. However, you have to be very careful. Statistics show that a vast majority of addicts relapse. I'm not sure the actual percentage but if my memory is any where near correct it's upwards of 70% that relapse. Probably even more for heroin. I'm certainly not trying to beat you up by any means. Even the best rehabs are gone when you leave. Those tools and coping skills you learned have to be sharpened daily. Some of these other guys that have posted with 10+ years under their belt will back me up I'm sure. It's not completely out of the realm of possibility that you will relapse. Hopefully I'm wrong. A guy I met a couple months back came and gave his testimony at a program called celebrate recovery I used to attend before driving (great program highly recommend it). He had been through 13 programs after 30+ relapses. Finally the last one hit. He's been sober for 10 years. But he said that every day he wakes up he sits and meditates on his day and promises himself he won't use today. He said sometimes it comes to him having to do that every hour. It can be rough. Adding to that though, normal people (those that don't struggle with addiction) don't understand. They want to hear you say you'll never do it again. To those people it's a simple decision. I had posted on another thread before that I'd done many many drugs in my past. But never struggled to quit or got addicted (thankfully). But with me, alcohol has that control. I start and I can't stop. I'll drink the county dry. Then try the state. Some people can have a drink for dinner. Not me. I just have no control. It was so bad that even though I was clean for a year of I were around it I would shake. I have no idea why. Not beer. I can be around beer no problem. Liquor. I'm fine around it now. But before when I'd be at a restaurant and see a bartender pouring it, I could feel it. I had to go out of my way to not be around it for a while. This might sound crazy. I don't even know. But through that program celebrate recovery I was able to find peace. I became a sponsor for 5 guys. Still talk regularly with 3 of them. I still have a sponsor myself. Don't give up. You're worth it. Sorry if this came off as a lecture. I just want you to find peace and have the right attitude going forward. I'm sure we'll talk more. Good luck brother!!!

Sorry, but just what form are you referring to??? The form inserted above clearly asks about "use" not if he has ever "used"... Big difference.

I am not "substantiating" anything... I am simply talking to and encouraging someone as they attempt to turn their life around... If he is using, then the drug tests will prove that out.

There has already been several "past users" posting here that it is possible and gave their advice on how to continue forward without relapse.

I "used" beer for the wrong reasons at a certain point in my past but that's behind me now... and currently still have a few now and then... How would you have me answer the question about alcohol use? Personally I checked yes and answer the doctors questions about current "use" of a couple drinks a month.

But, if I were no longer enjoying a beverage or two now and then, I could and would truthfully and honestly check "no" as to my current usage.

Not sure what the confusion is here... Guess I am missing something or misreading it.

With all due respect, no, the doctor is briefly trying to determine if there is a "current" medical condition that would be cause for concern.

The actual existence of the question is ridiculous in the first place. And don't get me wrong, I'm a former drug abuser but i find it hard to believe that anyone in the history of this question has answered yes. I mean, if I'm going to go to the extent of breaking the law to use drugs, do they really think I'm scared of lying by checking a box? It's seriously funny to me.....
