Theres a local company here that put up an ad for a sod driver ASAP. Claiming they make $700-1100 a week, depending on you. How accurate is that?

I'd say it's accurate. I have a friend that runs block to job sites. Pretty much the same operation. Cost of living is cheaper here, but he made $43K last year. But he's been doing it for 7 years. You probably start out around $700.

I hauled sod for close to 4 years in Brooksville and the most I made was 12.50 an hour, it all depends on who it's with. Bethel Farms out of Arcadia most likely pays that much because they have contracts with HD and Lowes so their drivers are getting CPM plus drop pay.

The only thing I will say about sod hauling is DOT will get you any chance they get because 9 times out of 10 you're overweight, back when I did it it was no big deal, just pay the fine and move on but with CSA on everyone's mind I would think twice before going back into that field.

And one last thing, not to ramble on here, but when the rainy season takes place in Florida you will not work for a few days at a time because the fields get flooded so they can't cut, and even if they have cut a lot of the times they're not going to bring you in there; for one you'll get buried up to your steps, and two they don't want to ruin the rest of the field. Bahia grass fields aren't too concerned with you tearing up the land because they're basically just farm fields that farmers lease out to a cutting company, but Floratam/St.Augustine fields are going to be very picky in the sloppy the weather, when they cut they also replant, it's basically a farming operation so they at all cost do not want you tearing up their fields.

If you have any other questions let me know.

My first semi job was hauling sod. Sod Unlimited in Bonita Springs FL. Out of business now.

I had a DOT pull me over and weigh me once with water just running out of the grass!

He weighed me on the portables in the 90+ heat and humidity. Only had 13 pallets on. I was at 77K. He was pissed..........:biggrin_25523:

Sounds a bit risky with the CSA score but it seems to be a good paying job if you wanna be home every night

Correct me if I'm wrong, but overweights no longer affect the driver CSA score?

Only the company score. Not the drivers.

There's a guy here running for his father in law doing this and he's paying him $400 / wk for him running his fanny off. Talk about cheap? :biggrin_25513::biggrin_25524:
