I have been thinking about this for a long time but never really put any numbers together. I am sure what company you go to makes a big difference too but what would make more money? a husband wife teaming or a husband and a wife driving solo?

I wish I could be of more help (working on getting back into a Rig) After reading this forum, I think if you find the right company, teams will make you more money. Besides If my wife can not drive with me it's a no deal, or like my wife Pixel says: If we have to burn we burn together. Good Luck

That's a tough question. Yes you can make more teaming, but remember you are sharing a space the size of a walk in closet 24/7 while on the road. It also depends on the company. Most like teams, but freight is slow.

It depends on a number of things. Yes, solo drivers get paid more per mile per person. But teams get paid per mile per truck. That means each driver gets paid for every mile the truck runs.

You have to consider the dispatch order of the company. Do they dispatch teams first so they get more miles? How busy is the company.

You see, you might look and say well solo drivers get paid .50 a mile at company X. But if their solo drivers are only getting 1000 miles a week that's only $500

But if teams are getting only .40 a mile at company Y but they're getting 5000 miles a week then each driver is getting $1000

Nana , lots of solos get more than 1000 miles a week and lots of teams get less than 5,000 miles . Some solos get over 3,000 and some teams get less than 3,000 .
I've been thinking about this thread and realized how few women are posting that are running solo and making it . I don't see how a husband and wife each running solo would ever get to spend any time together .
No newbie is going to get $.50 mile team or solo anyway . Few experienced drivers get that .

Also, teams will sometimes have to rescue solo loads that a solo driver mismanaged hours on...IE, might deliver in 14 hours and have 750 miles. Horribly crappy load for a team.

if you're a team you're hoping for 2000+ mile loads. truck rolls 1000 miles a day so you dont have to see a customer for 2 days. Customers slow you down..

Also with many carriers going to teams only do you really think those teams are getting good miles ?

Pay aside, I think you should think about trying to SLEEP while the Truck is moving! Also like SCUBY said you will be living in a BOX 24/7, If you think you know each other now think again after while in a box together you will find out if you realy like each other!
Not to discourage you from going Team, just realy think about the PRO'S & CON'S first!!! Not just PAY!!
I drove teams for 2 years I do not like Teaming, you have to be quite while driving so your team partner can get some sleep! just my 2cents!!!

Rick........I used those numbers ONLY as an example. They're not real numbers. I wanted him to understand it's not a clear cut issue to look at.

Quiet while driving? ROFL I don't remain quiet while I'm driving. We've both adjusted and sleep while the other listens to music or audio books.

However, team driving is NOT for everyone and no one should do it if it's not right for them.

As for having time together: We plan our miles during a shift so we know where to stop and eat together. Plus you must be off for 10 hours. Rarely do we sleep for ten hours. So that extra time one sits in the sleeper and we have time together. It works for us.
