Hey guys... long time lurker, first time poster

I Know I'm of a small minority on this site considering I'm on the Class B side of things... I'm having a hard time finding a job that pays a decent wage. I came across this gig on craigslist. its 1099 (yeah... I know) but I don't know what else to do at the moment. I figure if I do this for 6 months to a year until I can land a good job paying $18-$22/HR. What the job entails exactly is Driving from this General Motors Plant in Langhorne Pa. to 10 different dealerships in Connecticut and I turn back and come home. its a guaranteed $180 a day or $900 a week 2300/2330 to 11:30 so I figured traffic should be non existent

Kinda confused about the equipment its a non CDL position actually but its a 26ft Box truck, I just need my Medical Card according to the hiring person (which I already have) and from what I'm used to, most 26 footers are CDL trucks. If I'm hauling engines and transmission (was told that's rare) the weight starts to add up... So that still needs to be explained, the company is called Independent Service Providers. I'll be taking my drug test in a hour or so

In the meantime... I'm still evaluating myself and situation in regards to me getting my Class A and making Trucking a bonafide Career. I'm hesitant on the lack of being home first couple years and the Dangers of the job. 4 wheelers really take truckers for granted. Driving a truck and making it through the day and NOT killing yourself and others is hard work. For the record i'm not scared of driving or anything... i'm just highly concerned about these inconsiderate ### drivers on the road. Anyhow I already have my Hazmat, and Tanker Along with my passenger endorsement as well. I used to work for US Airways now American Airlines. I did airline catering on a 26ft Elevated box Truck:

I had to have my DOT card but for my bid position I didn't need a CDL because the Airport was considered Private Property and I didn't have to drive on the road. and just when I got enough seniority to bid on a position to get my CDL (free of charge of course) I get laid off smh. company already paid for the permits and DOT card too. So I spent 6 months hoping I can get rehired with help from the union but was Unsuccessful.

So I took my permits to a school bus company to get my CDL and fulfilled my 90 day commitment and finding another has been rough! I had a lot of job interviews from Class B jobs ranging from $18-$27/Hr but no one was willing to touch me due to a lack of delivery experience and though I drove CDL equipment.. me not actually having the license counted against me

so.. any advice? sorry in advance for being all over the place with this post

Have you looked into class B dump work or ready mix?
They should be hiring like crazy now. Some places will train.

    12 hours a day x 5 days a week = 60hrs

$900 a week ÷ 60 = $15 per hour, no overtime. Not to mention, no differential pay for working night shift.

1099 means no benefits more than likely. How is the equipment?

I'd say that's one I'd have to pass on, unless it's absolutely the only thing you can get. IMHO

Well imo stay far away from 1099 gigs unless you know what your doing. There is a reason they want to keep you as a "private contractor"

    Some ideas for you.

Roll off. Good money (most anyway) not as nasty as regular trash. And the right place will train you to class A to pull pups.

Private fleet. (I work for one) thats any place that hauls there own product. Plumbing, electrical, lumber ect.. jobs are about to get hoping.

Air freight places. Sure you've seen em. Hauling all the stuff flown in.

The list goes on and on

Veriha Trucking will train you to get the cdl-A and give you a job. Their school is in WI plus they have a terminal in PA. Home weekends or can choose to stay out longer.
Roehl Transport will also train you. They have a training facility in Besalem,PA and provide meals and lodging during training. Plus they pay you $500.00 weekly while attending their school. Hair follicle drug test at Roehl.
You're in a good spot for either company.

Roehl is number 1 on my list, regional northeast would be perfect for me, talking it over with my girlfriend over some red lobster

So far the consensus is... after training me doing Northeast regional and being away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time wouldn't put a strain on our relationship... she's in school anyway for her masters in social work.. on top of being a full-time social worker

So we are both hustling to better ourselves and bout time she graduates.. I'll have enough experience to land a local gig hopefully pulling in $25 an hour

My first year income is a concern though considering from what I read here... it appears some drivers aren't getting enough runs or a lot of short trips... my take home needs to be $600/$700 to be able to pay my rent, car notes, etc.

    You have a good plan.
With a little experience you can get a good paying tanker job or linehaul job. Some of those linehaul jobs pay really well and home almost every day. I know a couple of Estes Express drivers that make around $70K and home every day. Linehaul jobs are usually terminal to terminal drop & hook.

Let me throw out an idea here. Instead of paying rent, why don't you use your lady-friend's address for your mail, and just live in the truck. Several folks do this, and are quite successful with it. Particularly since you are just looking at trying to save some bucks for a couple of years. No rent, no utilities etc, can add up to quite a bit in savings.
@Rocks, how about throwing in your two cents here, if you have time.
