Some carriers keep some of the FSC? Why?

Hello, I'm an o/o myself. 2 years in.
Drove company trucks 5 years before that. . . So yes my question is have any of you Owners ever driven somewhere
Where you knew that the FSC paid to you was less than the national amount listed on some GOV. sites OR even DAT?

Diesel is right at $3.00 per gallon this week . Yet I am only getting $0.19 a mile for a surcharge. It just doesn't seem right.

There is no national agreed upon amount for fuel surcharges. It is a made up number. Some use similar mathematics to come up with the number but it’s different at every place.

Where did you see the fuel surcharge on a government site?

We are currently getting about $.21 cents a mile at our one place that pays it? Everywhere else it’s just part of the agreed upon rate.

If you don’t like the combined total rate, take your truck somewhere else. Nothing stoping you from finding a different customer.

For me, fuel was $2.59/gal last week, which puts my fsc at 16.5%.
I do ltl furniture loads between LA & Phoenix and I charge a % of the load for each pick up.
One of the larger picks was $999.80, multiply that by 16.5% and you fsc is $164.97 for the trip back to Phoenix.
My fsc move up & down for every $.05 of movement in the price of fuel. So if the price goes to $2.60/gal this week, fsc goes to 17%, or if it goes to $2.54/gal, fsc goes to 16%.
I always get mid to low 7 mpg on my IFTA, so it always works to my favor.

most get 1 cent for every 6 cents in fuel movement and thats only on contract frieght unless its an amount thats agreed upon . spot market its all in the price ..... so they say lol .... the national figure is based on 6mpg so if you get more than that you make more when fuel is high .this load I am on is 485 miles and fuel surcharge is 145.00 so thats 30 cents .. different agents use different rates which is confusión however is the national rate for last week . if you're getting 16 cents they are ripping you off ..... unless they are just cutting that figure out of a flat rate on spot market flat fee .... be worth asking about .. some company drivers on % the company keeps all the fuel surcharge
