Oh my freaking lord. People just won't stop whining about the highbeams flash. Although, I'm like gremlin dude, a quick flash of the highbeams doesn't bother me either, nor does it make me go ape sheeat like Gizmo did in Gremlins but even though it's not the preferred method of doing that god-forsaken come back over flash, at least thank it because the person you passed made an effort to flash you over.
Since that bonehead that posted a reply closer to the beginning of the thread said that he flashes his tails also at drivers that don't flash him over, as to show he's "higher than they are", or how ever the heck he put it, that's blatant truth that some people take this flashy, flashy business to ###### seriously so whether you flash with your highbeams or not flash at all, you're still gonna piss someone off regardless of what you do.
And yeah, I don't buy this nonsense excuse of flashing thanks just in case you didn't see the flash and were just attempting to make sure that the other driver received his thanks. If you're passing someone and you don't see or notice the come back over flash, does a thank you really need to he given? I think not. The whole point behind the come back over flash is for the passing driver to see and acknowledge the signal. But then again, you get people whining if they don't get a thank you. Me personally, that come back over flash is not for you, the passer, anyways. It's for the passee so they don't get their bumper torn off by the drivers too impatient to get back over in a blink of an eye.
Me, I don't use my highbeams at night to flash some one over, for obvious reasons but mainly because my highbeams have a little brighter-than-stock bulbs in them.
I don't flash every driver over that passes me every night, either.
And yes, that headlight switch wasn't designed to be turned off and on that often. I used to flash a lot until my headlights didn't come back on one night when I turned them back on after turning them off for a passing truck. Thank god they did on the second try.
If you can't turn your headlights off at night, don't flash at all and to the passers, if its only you and another truck, don't get butt hurt if you don't get flashed over. Stay in that left lane all you want. Keep your fingers off the marker interrupt switch and the four-way button.
The come back over flash was designed to tell a passing truck to come back over as soon as it was clear if there was a reason for the passing truck to do so. It wasn't meant to be used all the time for no reason. Hell, you might as well tell them their wheels are still round while you're at it.

Actually I prefer the high beam flash at night. I catch it in my peripheral vision or the spot mirror on the fender "then" I look in the big mirror to make sure I'm clear to move over. But that's just me.

Harvey, I hate to butt in on your little quarrel with jgremlin but being disqualified from something is completely different from the said thing at hand not being the better choice of a profession. If you suffer that badly from night blindness, don't drive at night when you can avoid it.

During the daytime the brights flashed doesn't bother me, but only an idiot does it at night. If that is your only option because your company hires people who need "lights on for safety" then while I appreciate the thought do nothing.

Hell, I don't even have enough time to flash another driver over, he's usually already cutting me off anyways. Happens frequently mostly with OTR drivers and dump truck drivers.
