My trainer in school had us start in 3rd (when we bobtailed) go to 4th skip 5th, flip into high range go to 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th. When we had the trailer it was a little bit trickier to start in 3rd for me. I just don't want to assume tomorrow so I'll ask and be prepared to start at 1st and go thru them all. However if it's a 10-speed I will mention what I did in school and see if he lets me skip gears. However I had a little problem stalling the truck with a trailer on it when I started in 3rd and I don't want to stall her tomorrow at all if I can help it!!!!!

You'll do fine. Do you think very many who take the road test in a truck they have never been in is perfect? And nervous fits in.. Most testers know that, so don't worry about it..

Anytime I had a trailer on in a 10 speed I started in 2nd. Just easier on the clutch and it's only 1 extra gear. Never skipped 5th, not sure why he suggested that way. Only time I used 1st was when I was heavy and starting on a hill or in traffic.

Yeah that's how I do it.. But if that's the way he was taught. But he will teach himself other ways. The whole thing is have very open mind to be able learn. Try going from 1750 -2200 rpm down to first it was 1500-2000 then now it's 1200-1800. It took a while to get used to it.

The Freightliner we trained on for shifting was an old Jevic and we shifted at around 2000 rpm. So I gotta see what Armellini's International Pro-Stars shift at tomorrow. Don't wanna shift it at 2000 when it's much lower. Ya think the roadtest guy would show me the door if I blew up an engine?!?!? (lol)

But the way he had us shift like that worked for me and if I was in another 10-speed I would most likely do it that way cause it worked well for me. But I would try your idea of starting in 2nd with a trailer. However I still want to overcome stalling while starting in 3rd with a trailer. Just gotta find that good balance of accelerator and clutch for that.

Think of this. I went and got my pilots license . On the test flight, the book says plus or minus 5 degrees on the compass, and plus or minus 100 feet on elevation. Well I looked like a yoyo and the compass was trying to spin like a top. And on landing I almost put grass in my landing gear from being short on landing.. I thought OHHH crap what a waste of time and money. As we locked up the plane, the tester said go get your log book and come up to my office so I can sign it for your license. I almost dropped to the ground. Because he knew how much stress you have and understands that things don't always go as planned.. If you know how to drive a truck you already know how to go from point a to b. don't loose sleep over it . Go in refreshed and not up all night, have a good breakfast or lunch before the test and you will do fine. If you don't understand the direction, ask to repeat it.. Sometimes your brain is going other places when nervous besides in the truck. And good luck.. And think of my test flight..

Try to keep it under 1800. And fired for blowing up an engine? Heck no.. They might promote you... All I can say is.. Try not to find out.
