I think so . Everybodys opinion is different. I get fuel discounts use their trailer dont have to write an invoice get paid following week, pick my own loads from load boards plus the company im leased to has drop hook accounts. So if i book a load to Kroger for ex. i drop and hook to an empty stay moving.
4. Driver salary (pretend you are an experienced company driver and you make $72k per year, so $6000 per month. Based on how many miles per week? I plan to stay out three weeks at a time.
Some companies will run you 3500 miles per week, some 2000 and some 1000. It depends what they do and how they do it. If you are in the Midwest a lot of drivers are home every weekend, but if you are let's say in California, many do two weeks on the road and then few days at home. Its not all the same
Lol shark brokers huh? So easy for every truck driver to blame brokers for missing revenue goals when they don’t wanna pound out cold calls and get their own accounts. Instead they want brokers to pound calls and post loads for them on DAT AND they want brokers to lose money lol. If brokers aren’t making 18-22 percent margins on loads they clearly aren’t doing it right.
this is the reason why when people ask for advice i always advise them to get a proper risk analysis done by a qualified accountant you've just saved them a whole bunch of money by providing a very good indication of costs the only cost that's not included is that on the human mind being able to cope with the stresses and strains of an O/O and the anxiety, what cost does one put on that?
Couple things: the 1st year is the toughest. A lot of shippers will not give you work (even if you have 2-3 years behind your back, shippers still prefer to deal with a company who has bigger capacity) and yes, "shark" brokers will low-ball you like crazy seeing your new MC. I am not saying all, but many will absolutely do it, especially agents from big brokerages. I personally am not against brokers, it's like having salesmen in all states, I just don't like bad ones and only with experience I learned which ones to avoid. P.S. When it comes to a lot of truckers, especially after being in Facebook groups for some time, I agree, that a lot just whine and want everything simply given to them and not do any legwork
That means you need to do 3000 miles a week @ $0.50 mile. Not many people are going to do that. Like 1 in 500 maybe.
It's definitely not 1 in 500. A lot of companies now offer fixed amount, no matter how many miles you drive. When I finish rebuilding my other truck and hire another driver, I will also be offering that. For example today I did a 200 mile load, but got a full day pay for it, so driver would have been paid for 600 miles
My other truck is doing 3 round trips loads this week. 1900 miles for the whole week. You will not be able to keep a good experienced driver if he only makes $950
