Just got my truck back with a new engine. $20k and 3 months down time. For an owner operator with a single truck this kind of repair would be just devastating
I think I'd just go finance a truck tomorrow. First cheap, solid runner I could find with good history. Run it while the other truck is down and afterwards list both for sale, keep the one that doesn't sell. This plan only works if your broken truck is paid for though.
No, my 15 has been rock solid. Never put me on the side of the road except when the dumb *** driver ran it out of fuel. That would be me.
It is extremely difficult to start a owner op business. Personally. My first truck purchase i signed on under a company MC who had great consistent high paying freight. Reefer stayed consistent and it worked. The biggest piece of advice I could give is learn as much as u can about mechanics. Diagnosing a problem early and fixing yourself will save you thousands versus road service at every shake...also. the dollars per mile matters but so does the distance and stops. I go for long runs 2500 mile with one delivery and one pickup. If u get 2 or 3 bucks a mile for 2500 on a regular basis youl be fine....oh and hate on freightliner..but the parts are cheap.
