I’m not saying your doing anything wrong. Just offering a different perspective. I’ve said it one I’ve said it a dozen times. If I didn’t have the skils, shop and tools at my disposal or if I had drivers in trucks working for me the only answer would be new trucks every 4 years. Most likely Volvo’s with d13’s Part of the reason I got into trucking though was so I could wrench and tinker on my own truck and tell everyone “I’m at work”. I have been doing this about 3 years and I’m averaging about $24k year in mantince and upgrades for truck and trailer. I was hoping it would be less this year but not looking like it right now?
This morning me and this kid got taken to a satellite warehouse. He had ( had ) a newer 670. Place was pretty tight and it took the old man in the 242" WB four pull ups to dock. When I was done, they got like a 5th of the trailer, I pulled out of the way so the kid could start. Well, he customized the right front of his 670 on the corner of a Jersey barrier. He did only one pull up though. The only thing I'm going interject into ya'lls conversation is - Ya'll most certain the guy in the seat doesn't effect the longevity and cost of operation of a truck?
The guy I bought my Truck from replaced trans 13 speed at 500 k I remembered a lot of trans went bad 2000 2001. I figured he got a bad one. He put 375k on 2nd trans I bought and put another 250k and it went out so total of. 625k 3 rd trans has almost 1 million. I don’t think he drove it right.I agree Its definitely how you drive em especially loaded heavy
I wonder how the trans, fifth plate, and bushings will hold up doing tanker. What do bushings cost any way,?
I've never really had issues with my steering system. I would suggest buying 16 ply steers, they tend to hold up better. Also, when it's time to do brakes, spend the extra money and get 23,000 lbs powder coated drums & heavy pads. They'll last longer and you'll get better braking.
On my old Freightliner the dealer would only sell the whole torque rod for $145. Local spring shop had the bushing for $35 each pressed in.
