Are you trying to say that some bad apple trucking company is ripping drivers off by charging them for taking advantage of company per diem? Which companies are doing this today??

From my understanding the IRS has made calculating per diems much simpler in recent years and stream lined so that companies don't have to keep actual itemized records.

On this website, they spell it out. Getting the per diem, taxes saved.

 

As far as FICA/SS, yes the company driver got screwed with the 2017 new tax law. It would have been better for the drivers to claim per diem on their own tax returns over company plans. But since that option, self return per diem deductions, was taken away, the savings from income tax (company per diem) far exceeds any benefits lost from FICA/SS payments.
Take the company per diem.
