True story, I drove local for 4 years, a couple years driving Articulated dump trucks and 6 years at a Drop lot. Tried OTR with JB Hunt because they offered most by the mile. After 10 weeks I had figured out I wasn't making the money I was at the drop lot and went back to drop lot until son graduated. Pulled my 401k and bought a used truck. I had enough for a down payment on a new one but wanted to keep as much in the bank as I could. Leased on and made pretty good money but repairs started day one. First 3 months I spent somewhere around 10,000 on def system, within 7 months a radiator new steer tires and lost a crank at 360,000. The reason I bought this particular truck was because of such low miles. I am leased onto a good company and they keep me running but I never figured on this amount of maintenance. This year I think Im at 25,000 in maintenance, my wife keeps the books. All in all I wouldn't change it but it isn't for the faint of heart.
Some numbers for new O/O

2000 miles a week might be a tad low?

If I could run half that many miles for twice that much money, I would be a little happier than I am now. It's a different mindset. Running less miles for more money.

Why run 3000 miles per week for $3000 if you could run 1000 miles per week for the same $3000? There would be less expenses due to 2/3 less fuel and less wear-and-tear on your truck, providing you don't idle your truck in the downtime.Coffey, whoopNride, KB3MMX and 1 other person Thank this.

Exactly. And live life in the meantime with less stress. Win win.

	20k/mo @ 2000mi/wk less 15% works out to 1.96/mi or $3923/wk whichever is greater.
