I am interested in getting on the RDTC program that Prime has to offer.
There is a catch though. I quit smoking marijuana in Dec of 2011. I figured it was time to turn my life around. What is the drug screening process like? I know I would like to go in late April early May and by that point I would be able to pass a DOT hair follicle sample since they only go back 90 days. Does Prime do hair follicle samples? I would hate to have to pay out of pocket to go to the school and then take a loss with having to pay the school back and pay to get home. When I inquired with a recruiter she told me that " If I can't pass a drug screen I have no right to be driving a truck for them anyway" She couldn't answer to the fact of how far back does the hair sample go, When I asked her if she could find out she said "Obviously you didn't hear me the first time" I then asked to speak with someone else. when that gentleman came on the phone he laughed at me and asked me if I was a drug addict, because only drug addicts inquire about testing. I have never done hard drugs and it would be going on 5 months before I came up there. Would I be in the clear???
Some questions for a potential Newbie

Walgreens or most drug stores sell home test kits.
I've heard 90 days should be good.
RDTC is a Roehl school -
yep rdtc is a Roehl school, my bad.
just thought all trucking apprentice schools were called that -
You've been off drugs for what, a month? Why don't you do yourself and everyone else a favor and prove you can go drug free for a year. Then you don't need to sweat the test and we don't need to sweat you jonesing for the sweet leaf. Come back and see us in 2013.

Have you ever been charged with use/possession of a controlled substance? You will need to disclose any convictions, and if they are recent that will likely affect your ability to get hired by a carrier.
Why do you want to get into driving? Are you currently employed?
I commend you on your decision to stop using marijuana and begin making positive changes. I would be careful about making distinctions between "hard" drugs when you're talking to recruiters. I understand what you're saying, but when it comes ti operating a vehicle, ALL drugs impair your judgment and reactions, be it marijuana or methamphetamine, or cocaine.
My advice? Be 100% honest with any recruiters you talk with. Decide why you want to get into driving. You need to have a "why" in order to follow through. And make sure you staying off the drugs. Find a counselor, a support group, a church. Get hooked up with someone who will keep you accountable and help make sure you don't slip into old habits.McBjork and dixieswife Thank this. -
IMO...you need to find another profession. This job is not a piece f cake and if you get too stressed you'll be tempted to fire one up to take off the edge. You are not the kind of driver I wanna share the road with!
Fire away with the hate comments...but it's my life you will take because you don't think it's a hard drug!jbatmick, dieselbear, MONT74 and 6 others Thank this. -
I agree with the others. WAIT til you can prove that your free. This profession can be extremely stressful. If you fail a drug test you will never NEVER work as a driver with a decent company, EVER. I dont want to share the road with a drug user. Its dangerous enough out here without adding to it.
Red Hot Mess, dixieswife, garciamag and 2 others Thank this. -
I always found it funny that the ONLY people see a difference between pot and 'hard drugs' are pot smokers.
And I'll agree with the others. I commend you for making a positive change in your life. But when it comes to trucking, if you have to ask any kind of question regarding drug testing, then you ain't ready. Period. Keep yourself clean for a year or so. Live your life and endure a years worth of life's stress' without going back and then you'll be ready. The wagon ain't got no sides on it and its too easy to fall off when things get bumpy. You need to prove to yourself and everyone else that you can stay on it when the going gets rough. Then you'll be ready, but not before.McBjork, Red Hot Mess and dixieswife Thank this. -
Meh, I'll just wait six months. then get myself checked out. And for all the people who say "driving is not a profession for you" can KMA. It is something I want to do, something I long to do. Just because I've smoke pot in the past, does not give you the right to verbally condemn me to not chase after my goals. I'm clean, will stay clean, and will be on the road come this fall. Those who support me will get a high five and a free coffee. SEE YA IN 6 MONTHS!!!!
