Thanks again, and hope that everything works out well. I will have to read that one post of yours again about checking with the right person that everything is done, not just believe what the recruitter says.

They already know that I will give two weeks notice, but knowing SNI, they will just bring me back and say lets not waste the time. I will enjoy orientation, home every night. Now just hope that if and when it happens, they have the empty trucks there. From what I am reading, Fontana and Phoenix are having problems with trucks.

If you could,On the "Comfort Zone", could I still expect to make some decent miles if I just say, everything east of Ohio is outa my comfort zone. That still leaves about 40 states to travel. So tired of this east coast and northeast and southeast.,

Was talking to a friend of mine today that used to work for Swift, and on the comfort zone, and he said something that I did not understand, that it was all smoke and mirrors. I might wrap my head around that later.

    Again, thanks for the welcome.

I can tell ya, when i first started solo, i ran the 910. That was basicly everything from Colorado (north and south) clear to the east coast, and up as far as PA, and that was it. No West coast, no new england states, etc. Basicly it was from the rockies to the east coast. ANYWAY, after 2-3 months of that, I asked to be taken off it, because i was only seeing 1500 miles. Running a comfort zone 'handcuffs' you on what loads are given to you.

you CAN let them know where you dont want to run, and they'll pick the comfort zone that works best for ya. But if you dont want to run anything from ohio and points east, that is Swift's bread and butter right there. i'd say close to 50% of their freight is in the eastern third of the country. If you dont want to run that, i'd not expect more than about 2000 mi a week. You might get lucky and get on a dedicated route, or a shuttle driver, but to get those, you've gotta put in the miles.

One thing about being a L/O i like, is that if its a 44k load from TX to Mass., i can ask about t-calling it in Columbus, and if they deny that request, i just decline the load. Let a company truck pull that trailer and get 4.5 mpg.

Thanks. I really think that I will not really hurt myself too bad if I ask to take out the NE states. Like I said, that still leave 40 states. Do not get me wrong. I do not have a problem going there, just not a steady diet of it anymore, and you are correct about the heavy loads going there. Been there and done that. I know where I need to run to make the money, especially as far as fuel mileage. This L/P is not my first rodeo.

My friend that worked there a couple of years ago asked for the East Coast as his comfort zone. He hardly ever saw it. Mostly MWest to the West. It was a problem getting home to MA for some reason.

I run 907: the three Western time zones, basically...west of the Big Crick (Mississippi River) and have no trouble seeing mileage. The first two weeks of the year are always slow, especially that first week. I opted to take three days off last weekend, so my first two weeks of January are really going to look bad...but I'm still getting a pay check. Imagine that.

This week looks to be well over 3,000 miles. The furthest east I went was Gary, IN. I will occasionally run a load going east. I've been to Atlanta, Maryland and New Jersey, but they got me the heck out of there on the very next load each time.

Thanks Injun (aka Mama Swift, such a nice ring to it). I thought that I could still see the miles, just keeping those pesky 8 Eastern states off my Atlas. Injun, can you tell me anything about the Columbus Terminal. Driven by it many times, but never a reason to stop there. I know that lots of times that I have driven by it, never really seen that much in the way of trucks there. Maybe it was just the time that I was driving by. Always saw lots of trailers though. WOndering about orientation there and the availabilty of trucks. Trying to get the so called ducks in a row in case I hear some great news next week, but after reading that one post of yours, took almost 3 weeks before you heard anything back from your recruitter. I remember that mine said about two days, which would mean on Wednesday, unless there is something that they would need to really look at. In our phone call, I mentioned everything that I could think of, including a speeding ticket that is no longer even on my MVR. Ohio of all places, over 3 years ago, and a ticket 2 years ago for a right turn in TX. Do not ask. It used to be a turn that used many times to get to a customer. Since the last time, they did new construction and put up a new telephone poll. Got to the bottom of the ramp, and OOPS. Got a ticket for obstruction, and right in front of City Hall. Could not back up or go to the center lane since they also put up a new middle cement block to separate the lanes. After that, they put up a new sign, trucks, no right turn. They said that at least I stopped. The truck a few days earlier did not, and took out the pole, and kept going.

Thanks again for all of your help. I really appreciate it. If hire on and see you on the road, owe you dinner, hopefully at a Pilot so that I can use my fueler points. :biggrin_25525:

I can't answer questions as thoroughly as I would like to regarding the Columbus terminal. I will say if you go to the shop, you better be able to either walk a ways or hitch-hike back to the driver's lounge. It's a big yard. If I remember right, it has decent showers and laundry facilities and I think I saw a hot dog stand last time I was there. But this doesn't answer your question.

I think Mr. Jones could address this better than I could. Unless there's someone on here who's from that terminal?

Columbus terminal is one of the better terminals. I havent been to them all...the only ones in the west i've been to have been ABQ, PHX and Fontana. But i would rank Columbus in the top 4 or 5 as far as quality of terminal. They dont have any video games (like PHX or Edwaks) but they got a TV room. (so as long as drivers dont try starting a fight when it comes to whats being played on it).

Their shop? One of the best. They have three buildings for shop work. the one that shares the same roof as the drivers lounge is for trailer repairs. The one on the north side of the property is for truck service, and the one south of the exit lane, is for B-service. Should you ever go there for B-service (highly recomended over Edwardsville.....er.....ANYWHERE is highly recomended over Edwaks :biggrin_25524:)
and you get there really late at night or early morning, you can park behind the building 'in line', and they'll come get you at 6a when they open shop.

As far as eats....Domino's and Pizza Hut all deliver. There is a chineese place that isnt too bad. TON of food for like $2.15. The food trailer out back, when they're open isnt bad....just not the quality of food for the $9 you'll shell out. Might as well spend a few more bucks and get Domino's.

Some of the info you prob. could care less about, but just wanted to give you a flavor of what you'd expect when going in.

oh...showers are fairly good. i think they have 6? They do have internet connection, and an ATM.

Thanks for the info. Since from there, I can be pretty sure that if hire on, that will be my home terminal. Luckily my car will also be there. No reason to take the truck home, plus I doubt that they will let me unless L/P, but then, why put the extra miles on it, and I can park the car in front of the house, not the truck. Going to be there for some work, take the car.

Mr. Jones, any idea of the availability of empty trucks there and what the Orientation there is like. Also hope that the DM's or FM's are decent. Any idea.

not sure on either one. DMs/FMs seem pretty nice. The one i delt with when i signed my lease seemed oretty helpful. I do know they have one guy dedicated to taking trucks that are turned in, and detailing them....

    Injun Thanks this.

Thanks again. You know the worst part of being layovered, way too much time to think. So now I have another question, and that is about transferring from company to L/P. I know that mentioned that the recruitter told me not to mention until hired. So my question is, when and if hired, would I be smart in mentioning it to my DM when first meet so that he/she knows my intentions, or just wait a few weeks. I know that it can work both ways, see what the DM is like then decide, or let them know up front so that they can work with me and let me see how it is going to be. At first they can run my az off, and I will say, this is good, I will switch, and then it can also work the other way.

Also, is it difficult to switch as far as approval again. I am switching because of the L/P program. If there is not going to be a chance, well, then. I know that I should have asked the recruitter this, but so much to ask, at times I also have the brain farts.
