I have the cash to go to school, suppose to start monday in KY. Ok here my problem. I had 4 prehires, TMC, Roehl, Werner, Us Express. I have been later denied by all 4 due to the fact that i have been listed as unemployed on my tax returns the last two years.

I mean the economy is down and 15 percent of the nation is unemployed. So what i dont understand is why the heck i cant get employed due to the fact that im unemployed.

They may want letters from people who can verify you've been unemployed. I've been self-employed for the last 10 years and had to send in copies of my Schedule C (Profit and Loss from Self-Employment) for the last 3 years, plus notarized letters from people who could verify that I was self-employed through March of this year. I sent one from my banker and one from a customer.

they have the letters, i told them i could also get the profit and loss, but NO thats not good enough. Doesnt make sense, a company trucker seems tp be the closest u can get to being self employed, without being self employed. Why would they not want a self employed pesrson. I mean its cut and dry, like Scuba Steve said, I did what i had to do to survive, which was mainly selling everything i own. Id say what it is is that there are plenty of drivers looking for work and the companies can pik and choose who they want. And pretty much, in a nut shell, discriminate against self employed people or those who have been out of work thru this trying economy...............:biggrin_25510:

Ok other than the economy, why were you let go from your job 2 yrs ago?, and why did you not take a lesser job than what you had after 1 yr? Most Unepoyment offices will tell you to take what you can get after a yr, but that was before the big give away....ahhhhhh the age of Obama, isn't it lovely?

I wasnt let go i quit. Boss wanted me to take a paycut 200 per week,( in an effort to keep my job and make him happy) i reluctantly agreed, one minute later he says I had to take an additional 200 per week paycut. That put me at laborers rate as a forman. And out of 8 employees i was the only one who had to take a pay cut......hhmmmm

    So i started adding 2+2

Prior months, his son was constantly crying about wanting to make what i was, and he kept having me train his son..I saw wat was going on that day , he was pushing me by cutting my salary till i quit. So I sent his (potty mouth) off of my hill. And let his Son have it. The whole crew that i had hired and trained myself, quit when i did.

The new crew made it two months without us, they screwed up everything, And he sold out.

Why would i just give up on everything i know and everything i lerned over 15 yrs, I had to try to start my own buisness i had no choice, other than to lay down and die. Do you think that these big trucking companies were founded by guys who layed down and died? I wanted the american dream, And i think i earned my shot at it. 15yrs of apprenticing is a long time. I think i deserved my shot, it was just the absolute wrong time to do it.

As for the 2 yrs. I wasnt unemployed, I was SELF Employed, and sold everything I owned to start a buisness, and try to survive. I bought cards signs ect. and placed them around 3 counties, bought me a truck and sum more tools. I let everyone know I was up for hire, I made a little money, not much. It would have been great if there was accually any money out there but there is not.

The main reason i didnt pull work was due to too many people doing the same thing, in my area. Dirty clients who give out your bids to your competitors. Its a cut throat buisness right now, and those who are established have the upper hand. Im sure the broke economy and lack of available jobs to bid didnt help. I have Been looking and applying for other positions in construction as a laborer for the last 12 months or longer, its hard to get hired anywhere, ive had 3 interviews 60-100 miles away, thats it. I would say everyone takes care of thier family members and friends first so if you dont have inside pull you can almost forget it. Working and counting on construction to take me thru life has ruined me, I built up just to come crashing down. Im done with it, Its time for something else.

The reason i choose trucking is I see potential in a career as a truck driver, its not a job, its more of a career, it may suk for a while, but you are never dead end, same as construction, work hard and dream big, climb the ladder, you could end up doing well. Or not, I will not be denied tho, I have to make it work. My wife and kids are counting on me.

Ok self employed is not unemployed, and I thought you said unemployed. I would have left too if I had to train boss's son. We all know where that leads. Of course you have to do what you have to do to survive, that's just human, animal, whatever nature. I realize it's tough getting a job especially in some places. I know you have a fam, but ever consider moving to a place with alittle better job market. I mean if you're going to truck it almost doesn't matter where you call home. Obviously some places are better than others, but maybe a change of venue would be benefical for you and your fam. Just my 2 cents. Good luck either way.

based on what i've read so far, i'm going to guess that they found something in the background check they didn't like, more than likely a bancruptcy.

no, not fair, but done all the time. check out the privacy rights clearinghouse's empolyment background guide for more information on what to do.

I am guessing that they somehow contacted his former boss. Since he only had one of them the info he gave (which would have been really bad) was given all the weight.
He was probibly made out to look like the worst worker in the known universe, and as a drug user etc.

So you went to the companies and told them you were unemployed and self employed?

You showed them tax returns that stated unemployed yet you had documentation that you were self-employed?

ummm maybe the reason that they backed off from you is some inconsistency in your explainations?

I lost a mangement job due to the economy three years ago and the company went out of business a year ago but I have W-2s and tax returns to prove that I worked there. We invested our life savings into a business that failed miserably but, I have copies of business licenses, resale permits, P&L staments and schedule C tax returns. All of the documentation is seamless and transparent.

Every company that I applied to (including the one I chose) had no questions about my work history. Even with my currently screwed up credit (I sure you can imagine and it probably adds to my credibility)
