Do they pay you for unloading even if you're on 1 or 2? Saving your drive time is as much to your benefit as it is to them.

If you leave Werner after only 2 months, you're just looking at a horizontal transition with a new company. Have you tried refusing these unsafe situations? They can't force you to drive unsafe/illegal.

    Mrh2008 Thanks this.

Thanks, never worked for big company... wondered what it was like as new driver.

I can't respond to first 2 issues not sure what you mean? Load/Unload line 1,2... if its company policy they wouldn't be in business for long! However it is common to do so at your own discretion. If you can show proof of this practice as a co. policy, take it straight to authorities.

Don't get me wrong, we are all in this together (50yrs or 50 days we share the same roads). Whats missing from new driver's training is complaints like yours.
    Rule:
#1: You are your own boss. Truck will not move itself.

    • don't look for support from anyone sitting behind desk, ever!
    • unsafe road conditions, shut it down.
    • unsafe HOS shut it down.
    • unsafe equipment shut it down.
    • unsafe loading/load shut it down.
    • The only unsafe situation you have no control over is the neighborhood you deliver to.

    #2: Its your arse!
    • no explanation needed

New drivers like you need a stress limit that is only achieved thru prayer LOL. Its a horrible mess out there! When the mess begins to look familiar your either a trucker, or made it home.

Best luck whatever co you choose!

Leave a company after 2 months is just a waste of time if i was you i would call the safety department any suspicious activity and they were going to take care of it, it's not the first time dispatchers are pushing drivers over the hos and stuff but once you call the safety dept and report that they will never mess with you. I left werner after 11 months and i was once asking to take a load straight to the consignee where i would have to drive 30 minutes over on my hos, i got a qualcomm message saying can you run that load straight to the consignee, i was like what is your name i didn't get an answer back and i stop to take my break and i was 30 minutes from the consignee. i was mad once i packed all my stuff and i called a taxi to come and get me at the truck stop i was gonna walk away form jb hunt truck and trailer then i sit and think about it and i finally realize it was not gonna be the best decision so here im still with them doing local work. Don't follow your emotion relax talk to them and see if things can change and go from there.

I was with big orange for 3 months and just couldn't deal with the OTR, I just didn't realize how it really would be out on the road. I just called my dispatcher the day that I was quitting and told him I couldn't deal with it anymore and that this was my last load, they had no problem with it, I dropped my load and they had me take an empty to another DC and then bobtailed back to the yard, turned in my paperwork and keys and that was it. They thanked me for my service and even told me if I needed to they would hire me back. But I'm working for a coal hauling company now in town and love it. Home every night, good pay and benefits.

Well I'm out. Funny thing after all this worrying leaving was the easiest thing I've done at Werner. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. So far so good. I just told them I was leaving and brought the truck back.

Anyway THANKS to everyone that gave me advice.

I'm in kind of the same boat right now, my truck is at the terminal and I am on my hometime. I am going up to the terminal later today and turn in my keys. I will definitely be taking pics of the truck so they cannot try to pin damages on me. Company is an outright mess, family situation at home is not conducive to trying to do OTR, and the company randomly deducting "compliance charges" off my paycheck, as well as not paying back expense advances I sent receipts for well before deadline - not putting up with it.

if you think it out you'll end up running more loads & instead of being 3 and a half hours away...you'll end up on the other side of the country...i turned werners truck in after my 2 days off..while i was home emptied my truck & took it back to yard in pa...guy in shop told me there was no room for truck & trailer & asked me if i minded taking trailer to drop yard since i was quitting...not a problem....turned in all co equipment got in my car & went home happy;)
