So I've been driving about a year now, pulling flatbed, lots of building materials, lots of jobsites.. but for some reason I can (and have had to) back my truck around entire construction sites with no problems, same with backing into all kinds of places to get loaded and unloaded. But for some reason whenever I go to back in a truck stop it looks like a monkey getting it on with a football.. I'll be jacked at some weird angle, getting out every 6 inches to make sure I'm going to clear the truck on the blind side and often have to pull all the way out and start over.. is this common or is there something wrong with me?![]()
Something I cannot quite figure out about myself...

nothing wrong other then the audience you have at the truck stop and worrying about hitting the truck next to you, relax you will be fine.

It's better to be cautious, and not have an accident.

Nothing at all wrong with you BL Hinshaw. You're use to challenging backing that I bet many of us could'nt do.Now when it comes to more easier backing, that's challenging to you.Few days ago I had a heck of a time backing my car out of the driveway.I had to keep pulling up and reset myself, lol.

Well I already had one backing in at a truck stop, back when I was first starting out. I feel like that might make me over stress at times when trying to get into a parking spot

It happens driver. I had a straight line into a spot last night and took me 3 times to get it in there square. Nothing wrong with what you do don't worry about the audiance watching they've all been there and done that before. Just relax you'll be alright and heck sometimes it's easier to back with obsticals in weird positions than at trucks tops. Just like sometimes it's easier to put it in very tight spots than when you've got 6ft on each side of your truck.

Its better to look stupid and be safe ,than to look cool and be stupid!

Never fear, jack leg the backer is here, some-days it slides in like a pro other days I look like fresh from school.
No worries we all have those days.mje, Leftlane101, okiedokie and 1 other person Thank this. -
Trust me, I just tried to park at a Pilot earlier today just to take a break, and took me a good 8 or so tries to get it in right (very tight, that's why I hate most Pilots). But, I didn't hit anything. So, it's a job well done.
Backing is easy when there's nothing to hit. Put a truck a few feet on each side of the spot 90-degrees and put it in there, and things start getting antsy.mje Thanks this. -
Get rid of the monkey!
mje, aiwiron and starsonwindow Thank this.
