When I was regional around Chicago, my thing was going to Panda Express for quick fast Chinese Food in the plazas. I wanted some spice like General Tso's or Kung Pao.

If I went to McDonalds, it was usually in search of something quick for breakfast and coffee before heading out.

A few times, I got a Shake to have while driving in this hot Spotter Truck.

Little Tavern was the same as White Castle. Was one on the way back from the bars in D.C. that place was always busy at 3a.m.!!

Yeah. There still good but not quite as good as they were say 10-20 years ago and beyond. Their chopped onions are unique, good cheese, meat has declined some (only a little) over the years but overall, there are few places that can beat a Whataburger for the money. Their breakfast items are pretty good, too.

Also, I spent much of my younger adult life in South Texas but rarely get that far south anymore, and I really do miss Jim's Restaurants (San Antonio primarily) and Bill Millers BBQ. I've been all over the USA too many times to enumerate and I've not found anyplace comparable, that can match up with either of those.

There were a couple of gas stations I used to deliver in Jersey with Chinese restaurants close bye. Never missed a chance to avail myself if their tasty food. Only problem was... I was hungry a short time later.

Many nights 2...3 in the morning I watched bears launch an assault on a dumpster in Sparta NJ. They'd lick the icing off the donuts that were thrown away....just the icing. And they were not shy about it either. It was across the road from the station; maybe 150 to 200 yards away. Made me real uneasy but all they wanted was the icing and never came any closer to me. Even the cops knew about it. I don't know how the town didn't come down on the Dunkin Donuts? There's an example of pure wasteful behavior. Lots of donuts thrown out every day. Of coarse the bears would disagree with me....lol

I have to think that’s a different chain. The Jim’s family I knew was pretty adamant about remaining a local chain, perhaps expanding to Austin

Maybe... When I look at one in UT it claims to be a "local" restaurant. But it's still called Jim's family restaurant.

Odd. their font and font colors are very similar, but there's no mention of any San Antonio locations. This is the local chain I'm familiar with and enjoy. Wonder if there's some sort of family relation/spinoff? And sure enough, this chain never expanded beyond Austin. They have exceptional burgers, flame grilled and good Texas style enchiladas with chili. But I don't know of anything on their menu that wasn't worth getting. But it's been a long time, things may have changed, but I somehow doubt it.

Sad thing is, I can't think of any with convenient truck parking nearby, ample or not
