I think the difference is SPOTTING and INSTRUCTING.
I have never heard of anyone getting mad or upset if another driver helps spot a guy backing.

If you were referring to my comment, I was talking about the spotter getting mad at the driver, which I’ve seen countless of times.

We were at the American Eagle 76 in Milldale CT I believe, (I-84?) anyway it's filthy rain, the kind that makes you wanna stay home. The alternate parking for big rigs overflow on the hill became a hill of mud. I managed to park ok into my spot.

Got to walking with others for dinner.

Here comes Mr Pumpkin, turns out to be a wee young one. Right he wants that spot here we go. I stood behind his drives at the front trailer corner and the rest of my group, hardened truckers all scattered around the pumpkin on every corner. Like 8 of us.

Wee one puffs up. this will be very easy.

He begins the backing process. Everywhere his eyes hit a spotter. At a certain point where his eyes went got to whoa. Pull up a little bit, turn the wheel this way, back it a bit, turn the wheel that, eventually hes stressed. Everywhere he saw a spotter giving conflicting instructions.

Took about 5 minutes before 8+1 = Funny time... He stopped still and laughed. He could have cursed us out. We popped him back into that nice spot in a trice and off to dinner we went. I think we paid for his meal and trouble.

In those days as a 76 it was a rather happy truckstop provided you could park it.
