I was saying at your age you'll meet a better quality woman in college than you will at the truck stop. But it is you life and your choice not ours. Do look into the local job market! That is sound advice. If your dad is unhappy ask him what would make him happy driving. What would he do different. You have a possible mentor that most likely loves you so learn from him.
I stand by my statement that college was way too much fun to pass up! You can play your computer games in the dorm can't you? Move into the droms.
Above all make the choice and don't look back. It is a blast to drive the truck! Rage makes a good point to you can end up in prison( although unlikely) or in a ditch neither sounds fun.
Good luck kid! -
You're a chip off the old block and you will think alot like your dad as you age.
I would listen to your dad. You got it made and don't even know it. You want to give up good looking college woman for what? Sitting in a seat all day while many treat you like a dog? Sleep in parking lots covered with piss and crap?
Driving a truck is awesome. Seeing the country is awesome. All the baggage that comes with the job sucks. It just gets worse as every year as traffic multiplies and the gov't keeps increasing the rules and regulations. Another 10-15 years, you won't be able to do the speed limit for the traffic.
There's alot more to the trucking industry that you don't see. Read into the forum and you'll discover some things. You can come out here and work 100 hours a week or work 40 hours a week with a college education and make more money.
You can go trucking anytime in your life. You have opportunity now. I would hold onto it until you see how it pans out.
Don't be in a hurry to grow up. You'll regret it later if you toss the education away. -
i never went to college and sure 4 years blew by and i didnt do much while some of my friend were well on their way to get a degree, but so what most of them had to stop due to massive debt or just had to get a min wage job to help the family.
as for those that stuck it out most intro jobs paying 15-20 an hour.
i was never cut out for school anyways lol, but i never wanted to be rich anyways, ill be happy with a 40-50k a year trucking job, in the future.
im staying positive and hopefully with an economic turnaround it can happen, time is on my side anyways im only 23. -
Just because he might try trucking now does not mean he can't go back to school to further his education.
Heck, he can even do that while trucking via the internet and online courses. -
I never went to college either. But I spent many nights in college dorms!
If I had a chance I would of went. I grew up in a military family. You went in the Army.

With that in mind, I went out and got a job on a golf course mowing fairways and doing other landscaping duties. I thought I was big ####. I was earning a paycheck (although a very small one), while most of my peers were in college, MAYBE working a part time job. Still I figured I was doing way better then them...and I was.
Fast forward 20 years. All of those so called "dummies" who went to college, have great careers, nice homes, and I'll bet many of them are earning double what I can as a driver.
Moral of the story...stay in school and get that degree. After that you can go and get your CDL and give driving a try. You may end up liking it, but if you don't and bail after a short time, you still have that degree to fall back on. Don't think about just the present like I did so many years ago. Think about the future. Think about what and where you will be 5, 10, 20 years down the road. -

They are in severe student loan debt, working $25k jobs because they dropped out of college. This guy said he doesnt want to go to college. Alot of people dont, but they go anyways, because the public school system pushes them to do so. They dont care, they just go because they think its the next step in life no matter what.
They go party, dont take it seriously, dig themselves into debt and often times are using taxpayers dollars to help go to school.
If you dont want to go to school, dont go to school! College does not always equal success, not by any stretch of the imagination.
