I've been a company driver here in Chitown for 35 yrs. I'm a teamster and have been fortunate enough to make a great living and great benefits and doing local deliveries and home every night. My son has been driving local for about 10 yrs. but never making more than clearing about 675 a week. He said he's had enough not making any money and future doesn't look good working for someone else and said the old days are gone..he's looking at purchasing a used tractor with about 500,000 to 700,000 miles...he wants to do regional only 600 miles max a day and back getting home on weekends..with all expenses and I know loads pay different what's the average drivers put in there pocket after all your expenses.and he knows there's a lot more to it.

    Thanks Dan

He can take home over a grand a week pulling hazmat/tanker as a company driver & not be concerned with the expenses of an 0/0. That's his call, but he can do that with several companies.

There you go again with what he "can" make . A driver "can" take home a grand a week at any carrier .

I'm right though; admit it. Can't make that at just any carrier though, too much sitting.

Yes , they can but many don't . Schneider and Swift drivers can make over $60,000 also .

I can guarantee that if he goes out and buys a truck and runs the way he wants , home every weekend, ext. After expenses, ext. That $675. A week he is clearing now will look mighty good !

Owning a trk is not all its cracked up to be, look at Ashley Furniture out of Arcadia, WI., I work for them in the south drop and hook only, day time driving only, and home every-weekend (sun-mon). After taxes I bring home more than$1000+ a week. and the ltl guys up too 1800, of course he may have to relocate for the job but its not bad.
