I am getting back in trucking in spring and want to go back into tankers. All the crap I hear about in trucking I never had to deal with. As you have heard once a tanker yanker always a tanker yanker. The only advice I'd give to someone with your experience is don't take shortcuts in the loading/unloading. They'll save you time till they don't and then you'll repay that time in the safety boos's office and if you are going to sling hoses get some lidocaine spray you are going to find mussels that ache that you never knew you had.

I've never had THAT conundrum, but have seen it. Not pretty.Just passing by and TheBigCat Thank this. -
I think chemicals pay more and have less waiting times at the customers. And I got paid for the waiting when it did happen. And other accessorials as well.
Taking everything slow and easy and get used to doing things in the same order whenever possible. The people where I loaded or unloaded were usually glad I was there (on time) and never treid to rush me.
My number 1 thing was, "I'm not getting any of that stuff on me".
Like others said, I wish I had made the jump to tanks years earlier.
Good luck and stay safe.Texas_hwy_287, austinmike, Just passing by and 3 others Thank this. -
I wish I could find it, but wife has a push ad on her facebook, some tank company that will pay $21.00 an hour to more/less sit around, and babysit. She was reading it to me when I was coveting my 10 hours of sleep ... LoL.

When you first go out on your own don't try to load and unload as fast as the old hands.
Your company won't expect you to be as quick and efficient as the experienced drivers but they will expect you to get things right.
After you've done the job for a while you'll be just as fast as the other guys.
One thing, and this is key...if you have a mix or a spill let somebody know immediately If you get fired you'll still have the mishap on your record but you'll probably be able to find another job. If you try to hide a bad mistake and get caught...and I can just about guarantee you'll be caught...you'll have a black mark that no tanker outfit will take a chance on.
See why tankers make the big bucks? It's not hard work but it's very unforgiving.Texas_hwy_287, homeskillet, austinmike and 3 others Thank this.
