3 weeks from today I will be starting school. I feel like a little kid before christmas, I'm so excited!

I'm 51, my kids are out of the house and my wife is good with me being gone a lot so I get to follow a childhood dream.

A month or so before I started school, nothing about truking fascinated me.But the school was paid for from my employer that laid me off and no other jobs around at that time unless I wanted part time so I thought why not.To this day I still can't find anything that intrigues me.But it pays the bills so that's the main thing.

Friz, don't let the stupid question asking from others bother you. There are several men and women who retire or get to that point in life where their kids are on their own and want to see what trucking is like. Also, its good to see that you have a supportive wife in your decision to become a trucker. By you being on the road alone, you will have a lot of time to do some thinking while going down the road. Plus you re seeing the country at someone else s expense. As long as a company gives me a detailed truck, excellent running condition, and maintains their trucks excellently , and keeps me busy, that s the key. Maybe if your wife decides to come along with you a few times and likes it, you two can become husband and wife team and pay bills with one person s check, and live off and save with the other s check

You consider what I asked a stupid question?Im not at all trying to sway him into the opposite direction. He wants to start trucking, more power to him and wish him nothing but success.I have had more ppl ask me why I got into trucking, what is it you like about it,et ect.I never consider those stupid questions. The guy is excited more then most and just wanna know what about this carreeer makes him excited and happy is all.

HA HA! Not a stupid question at all patty, and I appreciate the "back up" kev!!!

When I was 19-20 My father and I started a trucking company. We never got as far as big rigs, but we did spend 7 days a week on the road and I absolutley loved it; the sound of the truck, the smells and sights of the road, feeling free from the "rat race"... Life got in the way for us both and I started a family that I wasn't willing to sacrifice to the road. I am retiring from a good long insurance career and am ready for long days alone on the road. 30 years of dealing directly with the public have worn on me, I embrace the thought of solitude.

I am truly grateful for the support I have from my wife, kids and the rest of my family. My wife and I have discussed driving as a team and it is an option, but right now she wants to follow her calling as a community volunteer.

Oh, and I have family all across this great country; California, New Mexico, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, Utah and New Jersey. If I'm lucky I might be able to have lunch with family members that I haven't seen in years.

    Just a thought :)
