Hey folks! I’m new here and wanted to ask a few questions. I’ll be enrolling in the CDL training here in Vegas after being laid off as a bartender. This is a whole new world for me and figured I’d give it a shot. No kids, no wife and 32. I wanted to ask what’s the best route to go for as career wise. Union or non-Union? Is OTR better paying than local? Also I’m willing to relocate to land good companies that take care of their employees. Any recommendations better than Vegas companies? Look forward to hearing back from you guy’s, thank you!
Soon to be enrolling

Stay in Las Vegas. No reason to relocate for better jobs; plenty hire Las Vegas drivers. You'll lose too many tax breaks by relocating to another state. Texas and Florida are good though.

If you want a union job, YRC Freight, 5049 W Post Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89118 , now has cdl schools.
Reddaway is now part of YRC Freight and Reddaway also has a Las Vegas terminal.
Probably be sent to another state for the school, then return to Las Vegas for the job. Transportation to the school plus lodging is provided.

I’m not sure what school they have me attending. It’s through the Unemployment program. Actually pretty cool they can help out. As for the Union way I’ll check that out, thank you.

Companies pulling doubles on line haul pay the best. Some of those drivers knocking down $90G+ and even more running teams.
~
FedEx Freight is one of them. This company has one program where a driver just needs a CDL-A Permit.:

Online applications are best; this way, if you do call later, all your information is already in their computer.
You can call and say, "I'm checking on my driving job application."
