Just get a trailer plumbed for both. Normal around here are quick connect fittings. No matter what you do some oil will drip. Not a lot but enough to collect dirt.

Now on the pony motors, Briggs is the come apart of the small engines. Kohler is a decent motor but Honda has been in the small engines for a very long time.

Whatever you do, get a motor with a pull start backup. Batteries die, charging systems quit. And always run ethanol free fuel in them.

Yes. The connections have a big butterfly /wing type connection. Most guys use a rubber Mallot to secure the connection. Those have leaked.

In any event, I suppose this might have to do with if there is a pressure release for the lines. Mybe that would help to keep the excess fluid from leaking.

Sure I can believe the any connection can leak. I would imagine once the Pony Motor is hooked up, so long as the lines don't get damaged, and they don't leak to start off with, they should stay fairly clean.

Again, washing the truck at a truck wash should resolve the mess.

Pull start backup is the top priority for whatever I buy. I don't want to be stuck. Also, plumbing for both is also a good suggestion.

I was looking at the briggs and Stratton motor. 18hp. 1gpm better and weighs more. I also think it will have to sit on top of the neck as appose to within the neck.

Each trailer is different so, I guess I'd have to get measurements.

I would think that any trailer you buy will already have a pony motor. My Aspen has a Honda, and a diverter valve and plumbing to run off of a wet kit.

Maybe the trailer you are looking at (new) gives you choice of engines, but otherwise you pretty much take what it has, which will most likely be a Honda. You may be able to re-power a worn out engine with a different brand, but I would stay with the Honda given the choice.

I was asking simply because I was looking to take a trailer that was setup for a wet kit and convert it to a pony motor. I have heard Honda was a good engine, but, I also heard pony motors were slow.

Comparing them to a wet kit they are. But those complaining are the ones always in a hurry or those trying to sell you something. Not slow enough to warrant not buying one. Where a wet kit may take 3 seconds to do something and a pony motor will take 5 seconds to do the same thing is not that big of a difference.

It wouldn't be too hard to plumb it in so you could isolate the coupler on the wet line from the pony motor. Always good to have versatility.

Yeah.... I want to keep the way it's configures so I can use it for pony or wet kit.

Considering how little movement the trailer move when operating, I thought the pony isn't like 10 minutes slower. (Lol) Also, I am generally never in a hurry. When in a hurry, things get forgotten like tarps left on the top of the headache rack and they don't get tied down. (Did that and they stayted on the headache rack for 300 miles, Whew)
