Ok, sorry for the long read, but recap for those that haven’t followed the various threads I’ve vented in
saturday: after loading in PA Friday night, I get off the exit in MA for my first drop, convienently about 8 miles from the yard, home free, right until I’m about the mid way point, 25 year old kid looses control coming around the corner, completely wiping out the tandems on my trailer, police/ems come, customer is nice enough to load their skid steer on a trailer and bring their refrigerated truck down to grab their 9 pallets at the scene, limp trailer back to the yard, (other driver cited)
live about an hour and a half from the yard, so I call someone I’ve worked with In the past, to rent a trailer, hate pulling others equipment, but I want to to get the load delivered, take the truck home BT, made it home to steak tips potatos and beer,(best part of day)
Sunday: hook to rental trailer, go to yard, hand jack remaining 24 pallets to tail, stage with bob cat, reload in rental trailer, non eventful, but really wish I replaced my electric jack
Monday: 0100 appointment at UNFI in NH, arrive at 1230, specifici customer is actually a 400 appointment, whatever, pass out for a few hours, unload, check out, get a whiff of something sweet, weird, whatever, on to Burlington VT, get on 91 and another wiff of sweet, ok, find a wide spot, roll hood, upper right corner of radiator is coolant every where, lovely, head for shop an hourish south, 3 core rad only in stock, 4 core due In Wednesday, not doing job twice steal a day cab from my uncle for rest of deliveries, which have been rescheduled for Tuesday
Tuesday, first stop is about 15 miles from the yard, (was supposed to end there), head back north, get to VT line and feel a sudden “grab” check mirrors and there’s nothing but smoke, pull over, got to legitimately use a fire extinguisher for the first time in my ~15 year career, still not sure what it was, but brakes locked up, cage trailer, limp to shop, still not sure what issue was, thinking either abs valve grounding out and not releasing or freezing up since it was lower 20s, but full brake job on trailer since i have destroyed everything, shoot over to keen NH for another stop I was supposed to do on the way back, and give 6 Burlington VT pallets to another O/o working out of the same barn,
head for final stop in Westfield, 930pm appointment, typical c&S, but I swear every time I roll in their with a day cab, I’m the last truck out regardless of appointment time, called to door a little after mid night, turn key, click, click, click…. Nice driver next to me came out to turn key while I hit starter with a hammer, one final start, leave truck running until a little before 4 when I’m finally empty, head 20 minutes back to yard
fly down to shop doing rad to get a starter, one in stock, perfect, roll hood realize how much better my luck is getting as there’s one belt rib still on an idler that’s coming apart, ok, clean shop out and back truck in, pulley completely comes apart, as I’m about in, lots more smoke, luckily fire extinguisher is still on floor from day before, but wind up not needing it
Luckily I made it to the liquor store without issue after all this, stocked up on beer and tequila
oh and I typed this twice because my phone didn’t load it the first time![]()

Ive had those weeks. They are so much #### fun arent they? I wont even try to make light of those types of weekends. Those are the type you either get a bottle. Or you get a black eye, a smoke or a slap. Sometimes all the above all at once.
And not a hell of a lot better tbh. I had to deal with personal life family issues instead of mechanical though.Rideandrepair, Feedman, Another Canadian driver and 6 others Thank this. -
R.I.P. to your tires, rims, and likely any drum brakes.
So many expenses as an owner operator. I would lose my buttocks in a minute if I tried owning my own tractor.Rideandrepair, Another Canadian driver, Siinman and 3 others Thank this. -

“Some weeks chicken, some weeks feathers” doesn’t account for those kinds of weeks. Jesus.

I mostly really dodged all that when i was trucking
I did 250 mile radius of the terminal using their trailer .Rideandrepair, Another Canadian driver, Siinman and 3 others Thank this. -
But I've had years worth of BS like your weekend. Maybe not quite the same, but just one kick to the balls after another.
All good, the suck is temporary. Makes the good times sweeter. Cheers

Just another day in paradise

Oh, this should be good, and not to gloat, but we've all been here. I learned, in trucking, it's one crushing defeat after the last, and how well you rebound is the key. I don't condone the "liquor store" treatment, and you didn't really say anything that most of us haven't had happen. All in one trip is a bit odd, but in this line of work, there are so many things that can happen, it's amazing it works at all. My advice,,,I always expected these things to happen, and if they didn't, it was a good day, and if it did, part of the job. You'll be fine.
Rideandrepair, Another Canadian driver and Old_n_gray Thank this.
