Whoa, avoid FedEx Ground. Check out FedEx Freight instead. Try Brown Transfer Co and R&L Carriers. Try Central Transport, check out RAC Transport, both are LTL companies that you can have a shot at a city P&D job with minimal experience. Also try Bill Clark Truck Line, another LTL. North Park Transportation, Midwest Motor Express, all excellent regional LTL carriers. DATS is a nice place, be persistent. And personally I would avoid the transparency of just limiting your exposure to an anonymous online app. Do a paper application at the terminal and say hi to the folks in dispatch. Ask when the terminal manager will be in so you can introduce yourself. I love LTL trucking because even in this day and age it's refreshing that many of these regional carriers will give you a shot based on a "handshake and a smile" like how it would've been done in many years past.
Sorry, you get 90 days - Laid-off next month.

I did not get a good vibe from Central the last time I was there. I haven't been back because of it. I felt extremely unwelcome.
Estes said I didn't have enough experience. HVH, I visited, but they told me they wanted a year for anything. The FedEx contractor was actually an expedited. I see those trucks all the time so I figured they have to be busy. I haven't tried RAC, but I'll stop by next week. I feel like I have a decent shot at a couple of places, though.
How do you get in with intermodal? -
The only intermodal place I've ever picked up freight at was Denver Intermodal Xpress, DIX on 40th Ave. Nice clean place, but I'm really not sure about how the intermodal industry works, I have mostly LTL knowledge. I do see their trucks over at Bunzl distribution a lot, right off of Peoria from I70. If you go over there to DIX to check them out be sure to drop by Aspen Distribution right across the street. LTL will be tough, not going to lie because this time of year things slow down and they don't pick up again until March but you just gotta keep knocking on doors. And yeah, it all depends on who you talk to. See if you can catch a few drivers and ask what the situation is like before you go in the office, if you do get an app see if you can fill it out in the company break room you may meet drivers in their with leads about jobs at other places as well. It's a very tight network we have, you just gotta put yourself out there.

Criminey Jade Thanks this. -
Criminey Jade,
Unless they changed their biz plan DIX is all O/O, Schneider has intermodal runs out of the Denver RR yards---just a matter of watching for an opening.Schneider also has automotive runs, mostly team, from their Aurora yard that bring drivers back to Denver every 2-3 days---both Ford and GM. They are actually offering a hiring bonus for these runs.Did you ever try Western Fleet Services or Equipment Savers I mentioned when you were looking for your current driving job? -
CJ,
Just went on Schneider's website and they have a Denver local intermodal run posted 11/25--no hiring bonus. -
Equipment Savers did not respond to my application.
From classmates, I've heard mixed things about Schneider. I tried for straight regional & Western-11, but not automotive because it's winter driving with doubles. If have to chain-up and drive, I only want to deal with one trailer. At the time, I was also concentrating my efforts on System because I wanted to eventually move into heavy and specialized. I still want to try them again at some point. If not, then Maverick or Keim. I need to raise my upper body strength for the tarps, though.
