Today a family friend told me that he can get me a job driving for a O/O. It is a day driving job and home by 6 pm which sounds great to me. Would this be considered a good job opportunity?
I was told I could make anywhere from 700-900 a week before taxes. Now does the other driver get a cut of what I will make or how does it work when driving for another O/O?
Sound like a good job?

Well thats pretty hard to answer really. You might be home by 6pm but what time will you start your day? How long is your commute to and from where ever your tractor will be parked. More than likely the O/O will pay you and then you will be liable for paying your own taxes, which can be overwhelming if you don't save enough from each pay check or get behind. More than likely you will not have any benefits at all which, in my book, for 700 to 900 a week is not a deal at all. The owner of the truck will take a "cut" of whatever loads you haul to cover fuel and expenses. These are just guesses and my gut feeling says "no, it's not a good deal" but I could be way off base. Maybe you have a spouse that can cover you on insurance? Maybe your options for jobs are limited. Maybe it might be right up your alley but I would sure find out more about it before jumping on board.

Not nearly enough information given to tell if its a good job.
-
You are probably going to make about 28-30% of what the truck grosses
-
It's hard to say without knowing the truck and what it does. However, I feel the job is average because you have no benefits. I'm just going off the pay and what you would have to pay out of pocket if you needed a doctor. Plus nothing goes toward your retirement.

I was told the guy would cover all repairs and expenses of the truck but I have no idea about the benefits or anything so I am guessing there probably are none.
It looks like I either take this job or I go with Swift, USX or Schnieder. The real only clear advantage of this job is it's about 20 mins away and I would be home every night. -
I think this job is hauling stuff off trains and delivering it to the depots or distribution centers. At least that is what I gathered from what I was told.
-
Container and rail yards, I'd see if you can go out with another driver for a couple days just to get the idea of it all, not sure where your working but here there are probably 20+ rail yards and more container yards and there a lot to know about p/u and delivering to each of these yards

Just noticed your screen name, Cleveland?
-
Yes Cleveland. I was told I would be going out with somebody for a few days at the beginning to see how it all worked. I am still conflicted if this is going to be a job that will open doors for other jobs down the road.
I don't think this job includes any OTR driving. I am sure it will entail highway driving but I don't know if that counts as OTR experience that these other companies want you to have.
