Companies that run Canada need to have extra clean drivers.

They have a school here in Richfield and don't run Canada or even Hazmat.

 

What about Transport America? i think they have a yard in Janesville.. Or Mansur flatbed, they are out of Janesville I think your home everyweek with them..

 

You will have more opportunities if you go to an accredited school to obtain your CDL. While in school, you will have recruiters from different companies come in and talk to you regarding how their company is the best, etc... You will also have the resources of the instructors to get a job. Make sure to let them know what you would like AND listen to what they have to say! Getting into trucking isn't going happen quickly, but if you do it correctly it will have long term benefits.

I'd suggest you try to find the local office of Workforce Connections. They work with or for (not sure) the Department of Workforce Development for the state of WI. With GM closing they are probably overwhelmed, however, they may be able to offer you some assistance with school or training. Some of their funds are available as a grant if you qualify. Even if they can't help you directly, they may be able to guide you in a direction you weren't aware of...

If you have any kind of customer service background you might be able to get on with one of the local beer/soda/food type distributors,....Most are willing to train a new driver,...But beware that driving is a very small part of those jobs,...Sales and Service are the most important thing to those employers,...

 

The stupid thing is just about everyone I know that sells/delivers beer, chips, bread, booze, or soda,..Is making over 40 grand a year with good benefits,..

One of the pizza salesmen I know makes way over 80,..
