@swtdt placement. Travis u seem like a nice guy but i did call more than once, i was told to call back later and i understand u were gone for a couple weeks when i was trying to get ahold of u with a legit reason. But maybe the company should have someone fill in just in case while students are trying to find work instead of getting nothing at all. Im not trying to be rude, u were not the one who guarenteed me jobs if i attended the school. But i understand thats how u gotta try and bring people in, I still have the original packets from attending and they say Local Job Placement. Not Local Job Placement assistance, i was under the impression this school had more of a better connect with the trucking industy and the local employers..ill admit that parts on me for thinking that.

I was wondering if you ever heard back from Travis at Southwest to help you land a job? I agree with one thing they say lifetime job placement Thats all bullcrap!! You get a joblist not job placement!!
-
no I have not, had to get a non cdl job for now. im still looking, and yeah job placement means being placed into a job... how bout you?
-
I'm working at a non cdl job also. But still looking as well I still get my joblist and look on that also The one thing that also bugs me with SWTD is they say if you have any Questions to call them tell me what else can they do for us? Give us another list? Very frustrating.
-
I agree completely, it is frusterating. Having to take a low paying subpar nonrelated job that barely gets u by is ridiculous when I spent that kind of money to get my cdl and be told yeah will get u a local job no problem beforehand.. man I was fooled. Anyways totally am confused by this new joblist they have been sending out...I google those companies and they almost all come back regional and otr jobs...doesn't make any sense.. the list seems like its gotten worse and worse

Have you checked out any of the garbage/trash places out there? Food service places would be another option. Construction places. You have to do manual labor but if you want to stay local get ready to give your back a workout without experience. If your parents are in that bad of shape why did you want to drive a truck? Are they under hospice care? How long has it been since you graduated from school and how are your parents doing now compared to then?? The same? You could have driven regionally and got some experience to make yourself more employable when a local job opens up.
There are a lot of drivers that would love to stay local and work 9-5 but the reality is, those jobs, if they exist usually go to people with experience. Any one interested in trucking really should know that you'll need to away from home for a week or so at a time. Phoenix should have local jobs with that type of population base but don't expect local places to hire you over someone with experience because you don't want to be more than a few miles from home at any given time.
I've heard this scenario before "my parents are in terrible shape I've got to stay close to home" but then you talk to them and you find out they were on vacation in the Carribbean or overseas on a trip and their parents are here. Who's watching their parents?? Are they really that bad off? The parents can't have anything bad happen while they're on vacation because they aren't close by? It didn't seem to bother them to take a trip out of the country. It really wouldn't be any different, actually it's much harder to catch a flight coming back from another country than getting arrangements to get home if you're a few states away working if you needed to get home right away.
I'm not a driver but am checking into this occupation. I don't live in a metro area at all so a local job really isn't an option for me unless it's a seasonal dirt hauler but that's unlikely. This post isn't meant to sound uncaring in any way but I've seen people who don't want to be farther than a mile from their parents at anytime. I've worked with a couple of them. There are legitimate concerns when parents get older. I'm well aware of that, as both of mine are gone.
I've followed this post for a long time and read it all but of all the occupations out there truck driving is one that you need to be prepared for the the very likely possibility of being gone from home for a few days minimum at a time. You may luck out and get local right away but be prepared for reality.
I do hope you find something local but I'm just wondering how old you are and have you ever been farther than a mile from you're parents for an extended time? If you haven't, then you choosing to attend a truck driving school isn't the schools fault it's yours. -
@Goldenfan, I understand where your coming from with the "parents" comments but that's not the case here. Don't know about others but ive found my mom on the floor from siezures more then once this past year and I did explain that to my recruiter prior to enrollment for the reason of needing to stay nearby. Shes had a stroke since my graduation at school also, and I just don't make enough to put her in any kind of care facility and nor does she. Don't have anyone else to keep an eye on her for me if im gone for long periods of time. Anyways I have no problem being a " mile " away or more, ive worked driving jobs where im gone all day just not cdl driving. That's fine just cant be gone for a week to 2 weeks at a time right now. Anyways all the the trash places want expierence that I just don't have, ive applied at them anyways aswell as numerous other places
