I have been with enough of the free ones from the bar back when I was skinnier. I’m still alive to tell the stories. No missing limbs.
Space heater, electric blanket, or 4-season sleeping bag?

I have one in my shop office, it runs on low, keeps the room 68 when it is 25 outside. I have a 2 gallon tank which gives me 52 hours on the tank.
They need 12 volts, 10 to 12 amps on start-up - for the glowplug, and then 2 to 3 amps on medium after it settled and running.
5kw is the heat output. most of the 8kw ones are 5 kw ones. you can tune them to use less fuel, or put in an aftermarket controller and have all kinds of control
These are cheap and we use them, I have a dozen of the basic heaters on the shelf, and my failure rate with them is less than either the Webesto or Espar's. The thing that people don't seem to get they are almost the same as Espar which has a lot of the parts are made in China. For the stand-alone heaters, parts are cheap, with the others where you have to mount them, I would buy two at the same time, this gives you a spare parts unit.Rideandrepair, Siinman and gekko1323 Thank this. -
After reading everyone's input, I guess the move will be to buy a mummy sleeping bag and idle the truck to keep the block warm. But I will look into why my bunk heater won't turn on when the truck is shut off. Someone made a great point that if I already have the solution, why not use it. But I DO need to plan for emergencies so I'll be getting other things mentioned here. Thanks guys.

Don’t keep your sleeping bag in the stuff sack all the time. Look into a storage bag of some sort so that it doesn’t take as long to loft up when you want to use it.
