specing a truck for flatbed / van

    Looking for advice on specs wanna get a western star 4900ex to run flatbed and van what should I worry about

    I have pulled a van and a flat with mine. Sold my van the other day. Pulling just the flat now. I have a 4900FA. Same as an EX except a shorter hood. Good for flatbed. Not for van unless you have the extra tall version.
    Also pulling a van you may want a more aerodynamic truck. Van freight does not pay as well as flat and you need to save every penny you can.

    Well id mostly do flatbed just want the option to pull van without killing fuel mileage

    Get one with a bolt on top fairing. Take it off when you're running flatbed, and if you're switching to van for more than a few weeks, put it back on. Make sure you get a sliding 5th wheel and on board weight gauges so you can close up that trailer gap pulling a van.

    Aerodynamics aren't a huge factor below 55mph, so if you run slow, aero vs hood won't make a huge difference.
