I imagine I will keep on trucking. I don’t agree with it, and it will do little to decrease accidents. It will have a small effect on capacity which will cause rates to rise. For a while anyways. Much the same way ELD’s did.
The long and short of it is, I am middle aged and have drove a truck and built a business over the last 22 years. I’ve been away from being a mechanic too long to go back to that. The thought of starting a new career at this age is off putting. Plus it won’t provide the lifestyle my family and I have become accustomed to. Especially not start over at the bottom.
in short. I’m too young to quit and too old to start over. So I guess I will be riding along at 65. Which I already do most of the time.bzinger, JoeyJunk and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
Owner op’s can’t form a union and the Teamsters want trucks running 60mph and want to cut driving hours back. So not sure who you’re expecting to help you.Blue jeans, singlescrewshaker, gentleroger and 9 others Thank this.

And which two AHs do we have to thank for that?Blue jeans, Another Canadian driver, God prefers Diesels and 4 others Thank this.

I haven’t seen mention of it here yet, but the ATA is pushing for 70mph if you have adaptive cruise and collision avoidance like their member companies have and they want 65mph for everyone else. Seems the ATA only wants a level playing field when it comes to ELD’s I guess.

Excellent! I have adaptive cruise and collision avoidance on my mechanical engines. It has worked flawlessly since 1980. As long as my right foot doesn't get maimed somehow I'm good to go!TexasRiverRat, Blue jeans, D.Tibbitt and 13 others Thank this.

Lots and lots of posts, how long does it take for a truck to pass another if there’s only 1/2 to 1 mph difference between the two? Now you are limited to 62 -65 on a 70 or 80 mph road and of course , most 4 wheelers are already exceeding the posted limits by 10 to 15 mph. Just think how well you will be liked , you will be #1 as they go by giving you the bird, then they’ll be no question of your status! Been there - done that! 95% of the STUPID that I have been a witness to has been drivers of 4-wheelers . Seems as if anyone is driving posted speed limit or to conditions of the road for safety, you’re a-hole and in their way. They are clueless to how much trucks pay in road taxes ,license and tolls in order to maintain roads so they can zip along. Laws are already on the books for exceeding posted speeds , I thought that was a “ limiter” . Enforcement of existing laws governing speed for all , instead of adding more woe on “just the trucks “ , I think would be the better solution. How many times have you seen 4- wheelers dart and swarp from lane to lane trying to get one more car length ahead or looks as if a row is hooked together because, they leave no room for braking? Talk about crucified, should they implement the crash avoidance systems on the 4- wheelers as some of the mega carriers use, the ones responsible for that ,better hide!

Get the fire stoked up and pull the throttle lock out. Worked real well out west. Not so much on the east coast. Before that I had an under powered 13 letter #### spreader. It would do 62 mph wide open. I kept a 3 pound hammer by the seat. I’d get her in 9th and literally put the hammer down.Blue jeans, Another Canadian driver, singlescrewshaker and 3 others Thank this.

Sort of posted about this. Thing that people are missing, start doing these things now, slow down, only work 8 hour days, take weekends off, all that stuff non-driving people do. Thats what all the special interest safety groups and all the anti-truck associations want. So give it to them, do it now before they make it law, statute, regulations and what not. So trucks get all backed up on the highway, well OK, too bad. deliveries take an extra day or two, then they just need to deal with it. Start working just like the other people in the world.Blue jeans, Another Canadian driver, cke and 3 others Thank this.
