We'll soon find out. I have a Road Relay, and I can set my cruise to half-mile increments. I plan to do 64.5 just to be EXTRA safe!!
Also this: 1 mile per hour = 88.000000167372 feet per minute. So about 40 seconds, not counting cushion. We'll call it a minute. But it feels like ten.Blue jeans, Another Canadian driver, cke and 4 others Thank this. -
Owner ops can definitely be in a union. The majority of Teamster road drivers are paid mileage and the vast majority of Teamster trucks are currently 65 plus mph. In fact some local riders call for the trucks to be set at a minimum of 72. Very few companies that are union currently have owner ops, but for many years some of the best paid Carhaul Owner ops were Teamsters. Times have changed.Another Canadian driver, cke, singlescrewshaker and 7 others Thank this.

27 years in the Union and 35 years trucking for me. I wouldn’t cross a picket line ever, but I definitely am not striking today because I have absolutely no need to. I feel for those hauling spot market freight that sucks currently, but not everyone is in that boat.Another Canadian driver, cke, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this.

There needs to be a pay structure change. Daily or weekly salary.
Since they could have opened up the HOS when the elogs were mandated, and they did not. Now with the speed limiter, that will be another paycut.
I already see some trucking outfits paying $2200 a week guarantee. I think salary pay will be the way to go.Another Canadian driver, cke and Still undecided Thank this. -
I said they couldn’t form a Union and suggested maybe the Teamsters don’t align with what many people want.Another Canadian driver, cke, Siinman and 2 others Thank this.

I didn’t counter what you said. I stated what I know about Union owner ops and Union Company Drivers equipment speed settings that is not 60 MPH.Another Canadian driver, cke and Siinman Thank this.

It would be against Federal Anti-Trust laws for O/Os, individually and/or small fleets, to organize for the purpose of setting or establishing rates. The Feds would consider it to be collusion and price fixing.
I know that some O/Os are covered on some union shops, mostly Teamsters. But that is not close to being the sameAnother Canadian driver, cke, gentleroger and 2 others Thank this. -
I never stated that it would be legal to organize for the purpose of setting or establishing rates. I also fully understand the huge difference in owner operators joining a union or other trade organization like O.O.I.D.A. and what you are referring to. Collusion or price fixing is what oil and milk companies have done in the past to artificially “Fix” prices higher, which is highly illegal. What I referenced was Union represented owner operators leased to a carrier that had the contracts and rates in place with the customers.Last edited: Oct 23, 2022
Another Canadian driver and cke Thank this. -
I'd be ok with like a 80mph limit overall, then individual companies can set lower and like if a company has lots of speeding violations they can be made lower. But if wishes were fishes...
cke and RockinChair Thank this.
