Legislation that is most certainly to be signed by Colorado's Governor, will double the fine for speeding in many areas of Colorado's mountains. This legislation will create special zone (they already exist but will have new signage), and double the fine. Though not included in the legislation, they may enforce it in Glenwood Canyon. Depending on the violation amount, you could face a penalty of up to $1,500, much like the failure to chain violations.

I obey the posted speed limits (50 mph in good weather) in Glenwood Canyon - and every time through there are trucks barreling by me.

It doesn't matter if they don't enforce it. WB from the tunnel is the only place I see them stopping trucks on anything even approaching a regular basis. They could put a trooper on the lookout mountain overpass and write tickets all day, every day. Same thing on WB Vail or EB Georgetown.
And of course there's the frustration of having to follow those speed limits in an obviously empty truck that can easily descend at the car speed limit without touching the brakes.
Like most everything else that comes out of this or any other legislature, it's just more wasted money that makes them feel good with little or no real benefit.silverspur, 86scotty, Long FLD and 6 others Thank this. -
Few months back, I was passed by several trucks coming down Georgetown Hill, two troopers sitting in the middle at the bottom, they did nothing. Called CSP about, the Corporal I talked to gave a lame excuse, but pointed out they are understaffed statewide by 25% and can't really do the enforcement they need to.D.Tibbitt, TheLoadOut, bzinger and 2 others Thank this.

Reminds of the gorge in NC...the usual suspects .
D.Tibbitt, Hammer166 and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
Pretty much. The ill-trained OTR idiots who zero clue how close to out of control they are, and the various freight and grocery guys who run it everyday at the same speed regardless of conditions.

Semis are usually double or more then cars anyways.
IIRC. My speed ticket in Wyoming was 4x higher then cars.
NM too
