It's going to be tough. Companies are being a but more choosy. I won't say it's impossible, but it's going to be very daunting.

Wyoming and New Mexico will flat out tell you there's nothing they can do.

    @DWR96 --

With all due respect....one way to look at all this:

When you get a CDL -- from that moment forward -- the world looks at you differently.

You are then looked upon as a professional (on paper, at least). Thus -- you are held to a higher standard.

You are expected to henceforth operate on a certain level, or better -- regardless of whether you're driving a big rig, an RV, an SUV, a car, a motorcycle...or even a scooter. o_O

This is especially true -- if you are operating in areas like bad weather, bad road conditions...or in construction zones.

As CDL holders -- we mostly operate now under conditions that remind me of a former song by a band called, "The Police" (hey -- how ironic was that? :p ) -- some of the lyrics (they're pretty creepy, really):

"every move you make....every step you take.....I'LL BE WATCHING YOU"

Truth be told -- the modern trucking world is A LOT like that.

The bottom line: ready or not, like it or not -- we very much live in a "reap what you sow" world -- & nowhere else is that more true -- than in the commercial trucking biz.

    Think about it....

    :dontknow:

Unfortunately your at their mercy ( employers) in times of high unemployment they are going to pick and choose who they will ultimately employ. While the 16 mph is way over, this in itself does not mean you would not be suitable for the job and companies can speed limit their trucks, although still can't stop a vehicle sailing down a decline at 80 + mph. What you'll have to do is check the company website under hiring and see what the minimum requirements are, some will just say no more than a certain amount of violations their rule may be no more than 3 in a 5 years period. If you only have one it may be ok, however the only one you have is big one, still you may be ok working for smaller companies, there is also lots of work available operating on the harvest trail you could get seasonal work hauling grain which is a start. It is important to keep on knocking eventually a door will open for you.

P.S If your interested in Harvest work try the (USCHI) website you can put your own advert on there and employers will contact you.

That's one of those things which the impact diminishes over time. That speeding ticket within the last year could be detrimental while nobody cares about the speeding ticket from 5 years ago

2 major violations in a 3 year period get you a. 90 day suspension. Major or serious violations they are called is speeding 15 and over, following too close and almost any lane violation. To name a few.

To many points in a 3 year period get you a 60 day suspension. It doesn’t take much there either

NJ also has the McGreivy option, some violations can be pled down to 'unsafe driving' a zero points moving violation with the standard fine plus costs plus a huge surcharge total just shy of $500.00 and it can only be used twice...something I always pointed out to my applicants with a record showing just two 'unsafe driving' vioations....

Not too long ago, the mail carriers and food service were doing a lot of hiring in San Antonio. I know food service and redi-mix tend to be a little more forgiving on records. Not sure about the mail contractors.
