Now, I understand about a situation where you honestly didn't see a sign (HONESTLY) or a sign was obscured or something, thats one thing. But most drivers who get busted for speeding are doing so because of their own stupidity and desire to get from A to B as quick as can be. A sign says 65, people go 70, 75, 80, a sign says 75, people go 80-90...etc.
Second, Im not going to let a cop bribe me or scare me into pleading guilty to something I didn't do. If I was doing 15 over, Im not going to lie about what I did and take a different path to get out of my own stupidity because in doing so, I will not learn and will not change. If Im speeding, why should I let them bribe me into a seatbelt problem? My seatbelt works perfectly fine, so does my wipers, not going to lie. Im a man, I have chest hair dang it...suck it up, admit your moment of 'hey im a moron' and let them write a 'hey, you just did something stupid' ticket.
Just because I don't go with the flow doesnt mean I have anything to learn about how to work the system. It's called honesty. Unfortunately, lots of people bypass that for what they call selfishness. "Hmm, I can tell the truth and admit my guilt and that I did something stupid....OR I can admit guilt to something else totally not even close to what I did to save me a few bucks a year on insurance because I have a family to feed"
Now heres a kicker...you say I won't last long in trucking if I plead guilty (aka, tell the truth)...but how can I be guilty of speeding if I DONT SPEED, or be guilty of wreckless driving, if Im driving defensivly and safely? ]
Im sorry if I accept the consequences of my actions in moments of stupidity, but the truth, no matter how you try to work the system is still the truth. I earned each ticket I got. Each speeding ticket I got, I was speeding (whodathunkit?), when I got into an accident and it was MY FAULT, I also took out a stop sign and pleaded guilty to destroying gov property and paid a fine.
Yeah, I have to feed my family...but my family looks up to me to stand up for my actions. Maybe your family is different. Mine has values and we live by them. Sorry?

Ziggystyles, you are honorable and responsible. That is VERY rare these days and something to be EXTREMELY proud of.
Never listen to people who try to tell you to compromise your values and morals just because they are not so honorable.
You remind me of my parents and their parents - honest to a fault and they always took and still continue to take responsibility for their own actions. They taught me this and I taught my children this and they, too, are like that (as am I).
It's not "popular" to be so honest and responsible these days. It's much more popular to try to weasle out of everything you do that has negative consequences, blame someone else, etc. NEVER compromise your values or morals because it's the "popular" thing to do.
My hat goes off to you. If there were more like you, the world we live in would be a much better place.
Good for you!!!!! -
Its gotten to the point cops give out tickets like candy realizing they get pleaded down.
It is not a lack of honesty to plead a ticket down, it is now part of the system.
Police are under pressure to give tickets for revenue as well as promotions. They are many times unfair or dishonest.
In the old days they were given more discretion in understanding mistakes.
Not all mistakes need a ticket. We have given over our liberty to the "authorities" who like barny fife dictate their own opinion of the law. -
Second, you can't get a ticket...and this may be really far out there....if you didn't do anything wrong?
Can you get a ticket for speeding if you weren't speeding at all? Well I suppose if you HONESTLY didn't see a sign, or a sign was covered up completely, OR if the cop made a mistake. But generally, those who get tickets earned them. Sure a cop may have a 'quota' to fill, but they can't pull you over for speeding if you weren't. They can't write you up for your not wearing a belt unless they pull you over for something else.
So make sure your vehicle is compliant with the law, and you drive by the letter of the law and you are going to be fine.
lol liberty. God, sure, yeah lets bring up the ACL friggen U,...they've done wonders for this country.
What we need is a system that doesn't allow people to get out of their stupidity. If you drive drunk, take away your license for one year, no ifs ands or buts. If you speed and get x number of tickets (including all of the ones your lawyers got wiped clean)...take your license away for a year. If this happens two or three times all together, make the removal of the license a permanent thing.
Your 'liberty' can be fulfilled by taking the taxi, riding a pedal bike (not a motorcycle because you can still be stupid on that if you can't even drive a car correctly), or hoping on a bus. -
Ziggystyles, it's already this way in Canada to a point. More than three traffic tickets gets you suspended for six months. A DUI gets you suspended for a year and every one after that gets worse and then you lose your license permanently. I didn't know it was different in the USA.
I completely agree with you but most will not. -
Depends on the state... in CA among others, you can be pulled over for just a seat belt violation, if that state designates
seat belts as a "primary violation". I've gotten a few... no other reason to be pulled over... just seat belt. -
Love the ACLU comment LOL
There are different degree's of guilty
Speeding can easily be done by mistake, same with seat belts.
I forgot to renew my registration and so on
Now DWI is a different story, I think a vacation from driving is good
I don't see life in black and white, there are different degree's
We don't lock up jay walkers along with murderers. Under your theory all guilt should be dealt with in strict terms.
All I am saying is some "mistakes" can be over looked and or plea bargained down or dismissed. With out the person being called immoral or dishonest
Our government does not have ultimate power
That was tried by the crazy guy with the hitler mustache -
But many states allow for a visual by an officer for being pulled over
For the record seat belt use should not be dictated by the government
I just seems that we the people are treated like the governments children
Or primary reason for existence is to earn money and pay taxes to be handed out via government agencies
Round and round the spiral spins till nothing will exist besides rules and laws and equality decided by the all powerful government.
Oh wait we gave them the power via our vote, little by little our freedom is turning into a nightmare. OK I am being a little dramatic LOL -
i've got one of these speeding accidents i'm trying to reduce. i was in a rental car, going home to sc from mo. getting tired, almost home, didn't realize how fast i was going down a mtn grade in nc till i saw the lights behind me. -
I would like to seek for some advice here, if that's okay.
I'm 17 and was caught Friday doing 81 in a 65. It's just catching up to me tonight while I lay unsleeply in bed that this may really diminish my chances of becoming a truck driver when I turn 21. Does anyone dis/agree with this? I do want to be fully responsible for the ticket, and I know it's one of the stupidest things I have done... I can probably take traffic school, my mother says that she wants this so our insurance doesn't go up, but I really don't care about that; Does that keep it off of my record? That's my main concern.
I was so nervous I downed two bottles of water while he was writing the summons and could barely sign my name. My court date is the 2nd of May.
. . . If I were a masochist, I would be really excited right now . . .
