Nothing is going to keep it off your record and it is going to be on there for a few years. It may indeed make it harder for you to get a job as a trucker, especially when you're very young. As you get older and time passes, it'll be much easier to get a job. I'd say in five years it won't really matter much IF there's nothing else on your record AND you went to traffic school (shows you gave a darn and wanted to make amends). That's just my opinion, though - I'm not an employer.

I skipped everything else and came to the original question: If you have a cdl you can not change it by going to defensive driving school. You can get a lawyer and go to court and try to argue it down to a non-moving violation. Good luck with that.

If you have a cdl, or are persuing a cdl, some companies will not hire you with a ticket 10+mph over posted limit, other companies will hire you if that is the only ticket you have. Just talk to recruiters and tell them first thing, that way you won't be wasting your time.

The ticket will leave your dmv record after 36 months. Most companies only ask for a list of moving and non-moving violations for past 36 months, some ask for last 5 years. Again, just tell recruiter up front.

15+mph over is reckless driving. I had a reckless driving ticket (from an accident, I was also cited for failure to control) on my record when I went to driving school. Just keep your nose clean and don't worry too much. Most driving schools don't expect a perfect driving record. And if you are only 17 by the time you are 21 it will have come off your record.

And by the way, if you are interested in getting your cdl before you are 21 you can, when you turn 18, but you can only do intrastate (meaning only within the state you reside in) until you are 21, when you can do interstate.

I went to court for my ticket and paid the fine. Lesson learned. Don't argue with your Mom about the defensive driving school-its good for the insurance and good for you. It will look good in your driving record. Take advantage of the oppurtunity because once you get your cdl, you can not reduce tickets by going to defensive driving school. You can still go for educational purposes but it won't change a ticket.

    Good luck.

Oh yes they can and do all the time.

Oct 2005 I got a 10 over ticket. The cop was a **** head and was completely in the wrong!

The truck that had just passed me mere moments before the cop came along was the guy doing 10 over and I got the ticket.

Coasting off the small hill that I was on I MIGHT have been 3 over, but not 10!

    Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Sad to hear that Brickman, one must have been p/o'ed. Did you win the case in court, or what?

First I'd like to say that I've driven a truck for more than 20 years and have never been ticketed for any offense. I've been the safest driver I could possible be. And my record helped me land the best job I could ever want.

With that being said, I believe you'll never drive this long without doing something wrong sometime along the way. I was just lucky I didn't get caught. Someday you'll be crusing down the road and might drive too fast through a construction zone or any other small incident. Are you going to let that small mistake affect your livelihood? If you do then you're foolish.

You're taking extremes for examples and I agree that if someone get's a DUI or any other serious driving offense then they should be held accountable. But it's not a perfect world out there and LEO's can and do make mistakes.

Second, here's a tip so you'll never run a red light again in Las Vegas. As you approach the intersection look over at the crosswalk sign and see if it's blinking red don't walk or is green walk. In Las Vegas the majority if not all of the lights will blink 12 times before the signal turns yellow. This is a safety measure we use everyday when hauling gasoline throughout that city so we can watch over items in the intersection.

Where did you hear that load of BS? Your license can be suspended for not paying a parking ticket in the US. it dosn't matter what state you live in and what state you got the ticket in. Get 6 points on your CDL in ANY state, and you MIGHT lose your job, 12 points and you WILL lose your license.

How many points are given for a ticket? Here you only have 10 points and a speeding ticket is four. Six points against your license, any license, and you're suspended for SIX MONTHS. Doesn't matter what the violations are.

We don't get points issued in Illinois. I have never heard of anyone in Illinois who lost their license for a parking ticket.

I had a accident in Oct of 04. I got cited for careless driving and went to traffic school. when I applied for pizza delivery job, the requirement was no tickets of that kind on my MVR. I got hired and so I suppose it is not on there. Like you I am a little worried but I take it one day at a time.

I have gotten pulled over and like Ziggystyles, I will take full responsibility for my driving actions at any given time i am behind the wheel.
