I didn't fight that one. It happened in IN and court date was thanksgiving week. I wasn't going to give that up.
But that ticket was the reason I signed up for Driver's PrePaid Legal.
WY doesn't count points either, what they count is moving violation EVENTS. 4 events in 1 yr you loose your license until the oldest one hits the 1 yr mark. The events expire on the 1 yr mark.

Here, your points don't expire for TWO years. Used to be a point a year now it's all for two full years. Sucks. You get points against you in any other province now, too, not just tickets/fines any more. You HAVE to be careful in Canada or it's really easy to lose your license.

I don't know how my belief in holding yourself accountable for your own stupidity is an extreme. You do something bad, pay the price for it. How should serious offences only be the ones where people are held accountable?
The level of crime should not make the ability to cop out of a fine go up or down.
What was the deal in Vegas a few years back. Someone ran over a crapload of people at a bus stop and killed a couple (at least). They got away with a moving violation and nothing else.
Actually, the truth is that you can hire a good lawyer and even if you have a ton of tickets, you can get them argued down to a parking ticket or jaywalking or some crap liek that. Tons of speeding tickets, wreckless driving, DUIs...get a lawyer and you can get out of them and keep on driving. -
It depends on the State you live in. If you live in ONE state and get a ticket in ANOTHER, the ticket is sent back to the state your license is issued in. Your state assesses points and 2 points for violation for one thing in one state might be a different number of points in another state.
-
If you live in another state, like Michigan and get a ticket in Illinois, it is Michigan that assesses the "points". Did I say you had "heard" of anyone in Illinois losing their license for a parking ticket? How many OTHER states are there?

well, ok.. maybe not.
However, I agree with him 100%. Back in september, in a fit of inattentiveness, I got my POV a tad close to the guy in front of me - and stayed there. After I'd been there a few seconds with no apparent effort to back off or go around, a trooper swooped in behind me and lit me up.
I stayed polite and pleasant throughout the stop - I even pulled WAAAAY over, almost off the shoulder iin my Lincoln. I want him to have plenty of room to feel safe(r).
When I went to court, before I even opened my mouth the DA offered to trim the charge down to 'failure to signal' - which calls for half the points, and half the fine. I didn't bat an eye. Staying polite and pleasant, I explained that 1) I'm somewhat anal about turn signals, and would object to pleading guilty to that charge and 2) I had no quibbles at all about the charge, since it was correct. Add in that the trooper was pleasant and professional on the scene - I refused to bargain on it.
As a result, they DID throw out the "no proof of insurance" charge (I'd had the car detailed and the morons threw all - and I mean ALL - the papers in the console away. I had a few things to say to the manager after this).
Sorry - if *I* do something stupid, I should face the music. If I miss a rule change (obscured signage, for example) I'll more than likely fight it. But in that case, I'd likely not bargain it - I'd fight it in its entirety. It's not my responsibility to make sure signs can be seen, and if a sign isn't visible, I can not be expected to obey it.
(note - if you run into this, one of the first things you should do is photograph the sign/obstruction if at all possible. Organizations are not above correcting the problem and pretending it was done weeks before)
Ziggy - not to spoil your day, but you can drive with me any time (even after I get my CDL) -
I was referring to your statement of 6 points on your CDL in ANY state and your comment that your license can be suspended for not paying a parking ticket in the US.
