Truck is a 2002 Int'l 9400, C15 and Eaton 10 speed. Had no issues with speedometer or cruise before repair. Repairs done were; clutch replaced, pilot bearing, resurface flywheel, trans input shaft and bearing, range syncros and a couple of other bearings in trans. I picked up truck last night. It drove and shifted fine. Got on interstate and set cruise at 65. Then after about a mile or so cruise kicked off. That's when I noticed the speedometer was not working. I could set cruise again, and again after a short time it would kick off. Speedometer would bounce once in a while. It would register at 5 mph at 65, then later it was all over the place, then later no movement at all. Eventually cruise would not set at all. I also noticed that without the cruise, it would momentarily lose power; sort of like a miss in the engine.
I looked under truck nothing seems to be out of place. But truck is so low its hard for me to really get under there good. What could be going on here? Any ideas are welcomed.
Shop owner said to bring it back on Monday. I would kinda like to know what he will be looking for.

Sounds like speed sensor on back of trans.
silver dollar Thanks this. -
There is a speed sensor on the output shaft of the transmission that "reads " off a collar that sits between the yoke and the trans. This would have been removed and it's likely that the sensor has not been properly hooked up.

Yep, something funny with the speedo sensor or wiring to it. Those sensors have just a plastic body now and doesn't take much to break them. It may have gotten bumped and therefore cracked when they were r&r the trans. The wiring connector could simply be loose too.

They messed up the sensor, so they should replace it.

shop owner just called. Said the same as you. I was just worried that trans may have to be removed. Resulting in more down time. Thanks.Heavyd Thanks this.
