I have a 2000 FLD120, N14 Celect Plus, Eaton Super 10 transmission. It has been parked for several months. After starting it yesterday and doing my checks to see that everything is normal, I noticed the range cylinder sounding a little louder, and can actually feel it moving when I push the stick over.
Also at idle, the speedometer moves when pushing the stick over to high range and back.
Several years ago, I cleaned the range piston area and replaced all of the o-rings. My speculation is a worn or dry o-ring on the piston, and I think that I need to rebuild it again. I have purchased the kit to do that, just waiting for it to arrive. I wanted to get some advice and make sure that's correct. Here is a video showing the issue, to get a better idea of what's happening. Thanks for the help!
Speedometer moves when shifting to high-range at idle?? (VIDEO)

Check your yoke nut. Probably loose

Alright got it.
Here is your Tachometer. On the back of it, there are "dip-switches" for calibrating the tach. DONT MESS WITH THESE--but do note their position.
This is the schematic of the "connector" portion of the gauge:
Here is the signal CIRC 162 wiring as the Tachometer output:
This is some of the T/S that is worthwhile to check. I wonder if you have a bad ground to the tach, or one of the signal wires from the sensor:
The tachometer sensor is in the flywheel housing. On a Cummins N14, it should be on the bottom--about the 5-oclock position.

I thought OP said "speedometer".

*SPEEDOMETER*
Wiring for the speedometer (similar to tach):
The VSS pigtail does split off into two as per the build of your truck, notice the CIRC 117 and 118 that goes to the speedometer:
The sensor and harness split is down at the tail-shaft of transmission. The split is because the ECM wants to know the VSS for purposes of cruise control:
I suspect the sensor is bad, and any "shifting" is causing the sensor to interpret erratic speed. Get a new one and try it out.

Very well can be the harness, too! Good point.
