Yes, on the onset they are a great company so far but... but as with most company's u have to watch the miles they want from you in a day. Case in point:
From Aurora Co. to Gypsum Co. in regular traffic (lean to Mod) unloaded up the Mtn. is 2.5 hrs. The return trip however is slightly longer loaded and hauling brass; you're looking at 3 to 3.5 hrs back to Denver.... same circumstances.... only slower downhill with 45 to 47000 lbs. I can do this u say.... well try it twice in an 11 hr driving time frame. I personally cannot do it, I need at least two 15 minute breaks and a half hr lunch in my day... yes I know 14 hr wk day right but.... then throw in the altitude changes and did I mention this is I-70 west and east of Vail Colorado.... skiing chaining and ohhhh people who think a mustang is a SUV? Now if u are on BP meds be careful most of the time I feel like I just came from a Judas priest concert and yes I chew allot of gum.... up to Eisenhower down to Vail up Vail down Vail 5,000 ft to 11,500 4 times a day within 14 hrs. Its only 520 miles aproxx. Round trip x 2. Again I can't do it and I'm yes trying to find a better solution to working with spirit I know most of u have driven at least once up or down I-70 it's a lot different and more stressful than your average road, and in my opnion worse than Donner or Ice Road Truckers baby roads.... Yes they pay well and the eqpt is decent. There over worked staff and maintenance department struggles but is amongst the best I have worked with, with the exception of one dispatcher I don't trust there, there is nothing I can't say bad about the rest of the company. Well actually there owned by R&L... and it would be nice to see them support Spirit better!! Hint hint.. Under different circumstances I would try to stay with spirit but I personally need to buy a truck and run O/O. it's my time and I'm ready.
I hope this gets to all the rest of the drivers and hard working women and men driving America... remember it's your CDL protect it and the csa score u have and like I've heard lately " you can always find a job but u can't get another CDL " The Rockster -
