If a driver is paid hub miles then he should follow an assigned route and be willing to pay for any out of route miles. It is only fair to both sides. Mileage would need to be closely tracked. It could be done with current technology. Practical miles are how many carriers pay drivers and those are usually pretty close.

I get paid HUB miles and the customer gets billed for MY miles. I get paid waiting time and to wash my truck. Going to change a bit next month as I am buying my own truck :)

I did the math on my mileage vs. paid miles and subtracted miles I put on when using the truck for personal purposes. The discrepancy is only about 3.4%.

I don't want to be paid hub miles because I like going the way I choose. If paid hub, the company would have the right to dictate routing and fuel stops. As it is now, I can choose to meet people along the way, go to MATS or just take a country road for the scenery as long as the load delivers on time. I like it that way.

True. I wouldn't idle so much. If I'm using the inverter in a couple of hrs I'll have a dead battery. A road call to get a battery charge is more expensive then idling is.

Some of our trucks have plug inverter. These inverters have to have the battery plugged in when the vehicles are at a terminal. To keep the attery charged.

I just run a battery charger off my inverter... that way my batteries never go dead.

Stories of the perpertual electrical inverter will now be making the truck stop rounds.
