7's depend a lot on good drivers. I talk to fleet drivers that are still seeing mid 6's but once you see how they drive you figure out real quickly why. My 2013 was getting 8.6 but has dropped to 7.8 due to winter blend fuel.

    I agree I wouldn't buy anything from 08-09.

I get a report-card every 90 days from the company I'm leased to, that shows my trucks standing compared to the rest of the fleet that pulls flatbeds.
My fuel mileage average is 6.5 over 90 days. That's in the upper 30% or, better than 70% of the fleet.
My odo says the same. My old horse is an 04. If you guys are getting better average mpg pulling a flat, I sure like to hear about it.
What are you getting for an average between oil changes for example?

rank...you are mistaken. 03 was not the 1st year for egr engines! It was 2004.

    rank Thanks this.

Lot of variables but what make model 04, what speed do you drive, average weight and what part of the country do you mostly drive in?

Ftl. Century condo, series 60 detroit @430 hp, 10 spd. merritor, 3.70s on lp 22.5s

    Old CRETE truck.

edit; Flat bed, usually 40+ klbs , sometimes wide or long, 38 states. No newengland or west coast (ca,or,wa)
Set the cruise cont. @ 63 which usually keeps me between 62 & 64 mph. It'l do WAY more than that speed but I don't run this ole girl hard.

edit again; when I was pulling my 53' dryvan average weight at 30klbs, my average mpg was knocking heck outs 7+ mpg.
Vans pull easier than flats or steps believe it or not. Open eqpt catches alota air and thats harder to pull than weight.

SO...what average mpg are you guys getting?

OK I can never remember if '03 was the first yr of EGR or last yr on non EGR. Same idea though....that's what the O/O in the OP was talking about.

2003 was the EPA mandate year. Just like 2007 was again. You can get an 07 without a DPF and you can find 03s without EGRs. Just gotta look and make sure. 03.5 was when DD came out with the 14 L EGR.

Well, I've got a 6.1 average hand calced average from every fillup the past 3 months. I pull a dry van but don't have a roof fairing on my T600. I run a lot of lightweight loads 15,000lbs would be on the heavy side although there is one shorthaul I do of 65 miles that sometimes grosses the truck out but I quit doing that one. Speed kills my mpg's I typically am on tight schedules and roll 72-75mph on the big road when conditions are favorable, light traffic, good weather, no smokies.. I could likely get close to 7mpg or even crack it if I ran 60mph everywhere but I don't have time for that...

A friend of mine who's a company driver just got issued a brand new 2013 VNL 670 with a D13 and 12 speed auto I-shift. Not sure what the rears are but the tires are lo-pro. His cruise is set to 68mph and he's got 71mph on the floor. He tells me hauling the same light loads I do that he's getting 7+mpg from that truck holding it to the floor. It does even better when he sets the cruise. Power is lacking but he really likes the truck especially that I-shift I told him they are comfortable trucks and figured he would like it ok... Maybe in a few years when I upgrade I'll get one just like it, used of course, if these SCR/EGR/DPF trucks last...

October 2002 for egr Jan 2007 for dpf. Truck model years are usually the year before they are actually built i.e. look for 2014's next month. My 2003 was built in Sept 2002 so it has a non egr 6nz. My 2007 is non dpf (and now no longer egr either).
