Tiger Discount truck stop in Dickinson, ND. The back row looked like a salvage yard. Even the operational trucks had fenders, bumpers and fuel tanks missing.

89A in the Kaibab NF in northern AZ a few hours after dark. wide spot in the road to take a 10. Absolute and total silence, a vehicle maybe every hour, overcast and pitch dark (you literally couldn't see across the narrow road), no wind, and with some sort of owl in a nearby tree, for much of the night, then after that one left, there was another across the road that started up. This was before APU's and it was a cool night with no need to idle and the silence along with the owls was deafening.

Some place in Detroit during my short OTR time. 3am delivery and when almost there I see the exit sign on the highway for 8 Mile Rd. I was thinking, isn't that where Eminem was from?
Rolled up to the receiver and it is surrounded by 8 foot fence with razor wire on top! Had to turn left into a 16' wide alley then back across the street to get through the gate. But it did not stay open very long. By the time I got out of the truck, hit the call button on the fence and asked for the gate to be opened, then ran back to the truck to start backing, the gate was already closing. Found out I had to slide the tandems all the way back to trip the sensor to keep it open.
After delivering and making my way out of there I was stopped at a red light. I got the green and was starting to roll and I have to stomp the brakes as a white escalade all pimped out comes screaming through his red light like he is high tailing it away from a drive by.

there was a tank wash i had to spend the night at in nj, right off the turn pike.i kept waiting for one of the mexican american's that worked there to run into the truck. that was scary place indeed they locked the gate when they left at midnight. but i did like the baytown terminal at night because the flares from the chemical plant across the street made a peaceful sound, and the deer didn't even get spooked from the constant sound they would just graze on the property.
